microwave flap
Did anyone else wonder why Keystone decided to put the microwave flap so far out of reach on the 2014 3402? On my 2009 it was hard to reach but I didn't have to get out the ladder to latch and unlatch it. Maybe I can make a long handle with a hook on it. I really don't want to get that ladder out every time I stop. Any comments?

I replaced the outside cover on mine with a different one that does not have a flap. Before I installed it I put screen inside to keep the bugs out. That way I don't have to worry about remembering to unlock the flap. I found a place online that sold all the outside stock vent covers and just picked the one without the flap like I had on my last Montana.

It's not just that model or year. I had to use a step stool to reach mine and I'm 6'2" with (in the opinion of one of my college coaches) arms like a monkey. I don't have to worry anymore since the AZ and KS sun have warped the door to the point where it won't latch anymore. The microwave has it's own flap right behind it so I'll just wait till it falls off and then replace it with a doorless model as Glenn did.

I have to ask why anyone puts the latches over the door anyway. I have actually removed the latches on mine, it always closes on it's own and any bug capable of flying at 60 mph to get in there when I am traveling is welcome. I took the one off my 2012 Montana and repainted it as it was yellowing, looks great and closes itself at all times when the microwave is not on.
My microwave also has a metal flap behind the plastic one so it is double bug proof.

I use the end of a broom handle. Works fine. But I wondered why so high as well. Designer must have been a seven footer..

I bought one of those extendable awning pullers. Works like a champ.

If the outlet was lower...so would the microwave be on the inside of your monty. I have been thinking how nice it would be to have a real vent hood above the stove that moved more air and was quieter than the crappy fan in the microwave. Problem in this layout is where would I put the microwave... John

I see absolutely no reason to latch it anyway, with the single exception that on windy nights, if flaps noisily in the wind all night while I am sleeping. Traveling down the road, who cares? Nothing is getting in there while driving.
I just leave it unlatched all the time and it closes just fine when the fan isn't running. Again, I will latch it on windy nights.
