Black Tank Access

I think I have joined the "Black Tank Leak Club". Sewer smell occurs on about the 5th day of use - I normally dump every 6th day and have never had this before on this one or any of the past 3 Montanas. My question is, how do I access the tank to look - can I get in from the basement through the vertical wall panel on the passenger side?

Usually the access is obtained by dropping the black belly material beneath the rig.

Try to cut the belly along a cross member or lengthwise member wherever possible. It makes taping it back together much, much easier.

I was able to drop mine without cutting, except for one slice for the propane lines. You did not indicate if there were signs of leakage, just odor. Usually, you can spot a leak if you have one because the belly swells where the leakage collects. If you spot that, drill a small hole, to watch and verify before you deal with dropping the underbelly.

Mind did that and come to find out it was were the pipe went into the black tank it cracked around it and when it got so full it would open up you can access that by taken the wall down in the basement and look right in there on top of it . Good luck

Had similar indicators as you for a couple of years. Could not see defect from above or below. Checked it out at home base and could only see area where fluid was flowing. Once removed, top was split on right side from (looking forward) right rear to nearly center of tank.
Extended warranty is a good thing.

Five leaking tanks on our 06 3400 and two thus far on our 13 3402 Big Sky. The tanks split at the top, the sides, the bottom. They are obviously not designed to hold much of anything.

If you do get under the rig for any maintenance, remember to wear eye protection. Poo in the eye would not be a good memory!
