Curt 16K Slider comments

Looking for a 5th wheel hitch. A local truck shop recommends a Curt Slider. It is much cheaper (about %400 installed)than a Reese but is it as good? Don't want to spend the extra money if it is not justified. Does anyone have experience and/or comments about this hitch?

I have the Curt E5 16k, non slider as I have a long bed. I have pulled with this hitch the last 4 years and not one problem. I like the fact that a solid bar slides across in front of the pin instead of jaws closing around them. IMO, I feel more secure that the pin cannot slip through the jaws. Not saying it can, would or has I just feel better. I also use a teflon disc instead of grease. 4 years of towing and no wear yet. I paid around the same also and would recommend this hitch to anyone.

I have a 20k Curt slider and think it is a well designed hitch. The 20k has grease fittings so it is easy to lube the points that need it. We have towed on the Alaskan Highway and hit some dips at highway speed. I thought I would have ripped the entire hitch out of the truck but it took the stress with no problem.

I have never used the slider feature however there was one time I should have. A new rear window costs $290.00 installed.

I, like, Jungle Jim use the Teflon disk instead of using lubricant. Someone last year told me that before towing he sprays WD-40 on his Teflon disk and his unit seems to turn smoother.

If you have a short bed truck, you should take a good look at the Pullrite Super-glide auto-slider. Mine has definitely relieved some of my stress. I was hesitant about the initial investment. After seeing several cab-to-trailer-nose crashes with repairs far more extensive than just a back glass, I am happy and perhaps even proud of my 16k lb. Super-glide!

PS: three of the four such crashes were typical: late day, backing in, ready-for-a-beer, hungry, long-drive, sleepy,...
two were: I have a manual slider and just plain-old forgot to actuate it!

I am in no way affiliated with Pull-rite beyond being a satisfied owner. $800.00 (installed free with purchase of 5'r, with Super Rails) was a small investment to protect my $56k new truck from my old-man forgetfulness after a long day on the road.

I've owned a couple of 15K Reese hitches and currently own a 20K Curt. I believe the Curt is easily equal in quality and durability. If I ever need another hitch, it will be a Curt.

I just had a 20K curt slider installed in my truck. So far I love it. But I have not used it enough to really say. They were very impressive at The big RV show in Tampa. And a friend of mine that is familiar with hitchs said it was a very good hitch.

I haven't used a Curt slider hitch but do have a Pullrite Superglide. I have had zero problems with it and it's a no brainer to operate (one of the reasons I got it). It operates smoothly and requires minimal maintenance and adjustment. I like that the head is removable and I can do it by myself. It was more $$ than some other hitches, but well worth every penny. Highly recommended.
