How long for water to heat on electric?
Hi all, just took delivery of our fiver 1 week ago. Yesterday, I tried running the w/h on electric only but the water never got hot...not even warm. I know the unit works on gas but had not tried the elec. till now. The w/h does have water in it and I turned it on elec. using the little switch with the cotter pin on the outside of the unit. Did I miss something? Checked the breaker and the reset on the w/h and both seemed normal. It was probably on for an hour or so with no noticable results...any ideas?

AZ,
I'm curious as well, I'm not sure mine is working on electric and it's on my "repair list" or check list perhaps. I'm sure it does take longer and perhaps I've not been patient enough, those who know me are leaning towards that explanation!

Are you plugged into to shore power? Electric only runs when you are plugged into AC.
Happy trails.........................

If you have the electric switch turned on and it is heating the water, you can definitely hear it, especially outside near the on/off switch. If you don't hear it on Electric only, then something is wrong. If in your case, the water is not getting even warm or hot, their is a problem....Les

Electric will heat the water up real fast.We usually run it on electric most of the time. The recovery time is quicker and you are paying for electric anyhow. You have a problem..perhaps the element failed.

Just a reminder. you have to plugged into 110. 12V does not do it. Hope your fix is easy.

O.K., thx for the responses. That is what I needed to know. There is some type of problem because I was plugged in to shore power and it didn't make any noise or seem to do anything. The fiver is in storage till the weekend so I wiil try to figure it out then. Thanks so much for the info.

Breaker not tripped? ...and you did turn it "on" (cotter pin has to be removed to go to the "on" position)? Also, I think that there are reset buttons on the heater itself.
I know these are very obvious things that you probably checked, ...but just in case.

Now I'm terribly curious, I'll have to check mine next week when I pick it up from storage before we go out for the weekend. I just thought it must have taken longer on electric than gas and I didn't really expect to hear a noise if it was running on electric. Hmmmm I'll have to check all those things.

When I heard a noise coming from the water heater when on electric, I then guessed something was wrong, as it never did that before when being used. I just used the LP until I replaced the element and again no noise when operating.

Keep in mint there are two switches to check. One is the circut breaker and the second is outside the trailer and inside the water heater panel.

Rick,
I've taken out the cotter pin and turned on the electric element in the panel. I'll have to check the circuit breaker too. I'm just surprised it will make a noise on electric mode, obviously I've only been around gas or propane water heaters.

I've never noticed any noise when running HWH on electric. I can feel a temperature difference after running on electric for an hour.
Propane is faster in my unit, so I'll run the HWH on propane if I need hot water faster. I normally run the HWH on electric and have never had a problem. The anode rod is getting thin and will need replacing this year though.

I normally run the HWH on propane and then switch to electric at night before going to bed.

FYI - You can also run the WH on BOTH electric and propane at the same time for the fastest recovery time.
