Scott thank you for the information and the PM. The local front end shop could find availability in the US but a couple of weeks away. I phoned Summit today and they have 3 locations, they have a few in Nevada, 8 or more in Ohio and none at their other location. I had one shipped to my sisters RV site in Yuma via UPS and it will be there when I arrive at the end of January.

If the local dealer comes up with one for me I will have a spare I guess and won't have pay to have a wheel alignment since I can put that part in myself.

Both my Daughter and son in laws trucks are involved in the recall as well so I have passed this information on to them.

I hope affected members keep the other members up to date as to how they are making out with dealers wherever they are.

We took our recall notice to our dealer in Delaware. They are saying they will have the parts next week. Hmmmm.... We will see! And we did not buy the truck from them but have 2 other vehicles. Will let you know if we acquire the parts or it's wishful thinking .

I was just notified by my dealer that the parts are in and I'm scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

Definitely seems to be a part of the country and being near your selling dealer sort of issue.

The biggest part is having bought from a dealer who does not sell a lot of trucks and there are area's of the country like that. They still get their one every 7 days.

My dealer had about 20 of the parts on hand today but said he has over 250 (back to 2003) trucks to check, not all require replacement. 2008 and later are being replaced, 2003-2007 are being checked because the newer style tie-rod was used as a replacement part on the older trucks.

You may be further ahead putting in the MOOG parts. I live near Summit Racing here in OH. I would be happy to check on parts for you if you would like.Send me a PM if I can help you.

Did you have the part replaced? If so, was it just the left or both sides?

Scott

It was the whole tie rod assembly.
I'm not a mechanic but have changed my share of tie rods and ball joints. The problem as it was shown to me is not with the ball joint but with the alignment of that joint. When not aligned correctly it binds and breaks the stud. The first recall was to check the alignment and replace any joint they thought was damaged. This recall replaces the whole assembly with one that insures the correct alignment. Even if you replace the joint in the old tie rod with a Moog it can still fail if not aligned properly.

The alignment can still be made even if the parts weren't going to be replaced. The tie rods need to be no more the 3 degrees from each other when bolted up. Think of it like the hands on a clock. Both tie rods or the hands of the clock need to be at 12 o'clock, not 12:05 or 11:55.

I think they decided to replace both because of the stress and wear at both ends but at first, the left side broke first.
