Hunting
This isn't a story about me hunting although I was, it's about a bald eagle hunting.
A friend and I pulled up in a hay field and saw what we thought was a groundhog about 3 to 400 yards. We looked and it was a bald eagle so we went to another field where we found a groundhog at 492 yards. I didn't allow for about a 3 mile an hour wind and missed. The Eagle was watching from above saw the groundhog go in his den and landed about 20 feet from the den, walked over to the stood over the den and was waiting until he came out.
We see eagles here but have never seen one hunt like this. They will eat a dead groundhog or catch one out and go for him but I have not seen one stand at the den to catch dinner.

Very cool. Was he there for takeout or was he dinning in?

Well, they are carrion birds - that's why Franklin wanted our national bird to be a turkey. I'm also surprised that one was going after a live anything. They really like dead things; very dead things.

A friend in Pa has a picture he took of a bald eagle with a trout in his tallons. The trout is still under water but you can still see it. It is a great picture, a once in a lifetime picture. You might find it on: Borden rifles.com. I think Jim has some of his pictures on his web site.
