Roof Maintenance

So sorry, but could you all tell me exactly what we're supposed to do and how often? We keep the Montana uncovered in our driveway when were not out in it. We had wanted to get a cover, but found out they only last 3-5 years. We also want to build an RV barn but that's a few years down the road.

So, how do we preserve what we have?

Thanks.

Wash it once or twice a year with a medium to soft brush and plain Blue Dawn. Don't waste money on anything else.

Also, don't use a fruit smelling flavor of detergent. Birds and squirrels have been know to peck or scratch at the surface if it smells like food.

I used the stuff CW sold for years until I got on this forum. Blue Dawn or Murphy's Oil Soap were recommended and I've found either one works as well or better than the stuff you buy designed for the job. In fact, I just used the Blue Dawn this week and am happy with the results.

My husband looked on Keystones website and they recommended Dicor’s Roof-Gard Rubber Roof Protectant after cleaning with Dicor’s Rubber Roof Cleaner. Will the Blue Dawn or the Murphy's oil soap protect the roof? We're concerned about UV damage. I've seen rubber tires dry out and disintegrate from being in the sun.

Inspect in the area where the rubber roof meets the front cap and rear Keystone has applied a bead of Dicor self leveling caulk also around all the vents etc over time this can dry for know just an inspection.

All we do is wash occasionally.

I have never used a protectant on the roof of my campers. I'm not sure how necessary it is. Maybe others have an opinion. I do inspect the caulking a couple times a year.

I have used the two aforementioned dicor products and I didn't see any reduction in chalking of the roof. So when what I have left in the bottle is gone, it will be blue dawn or murphys. John

Dawn or Murphy's is just like the first part of Dicor's procedure ... it's a cleaner. They are just cheaper to buy and readily available about anywhere. Those of us who do follow up with a UV inhibitor just wipe on Aerospace 303 or another rubber roof protectant right after the wash job. I use 303 and will say it does reduce the black streaks and makes the roof easier to scrub the next time. Sadly, it only lasts about 4-5 months.

12 years going on 13 never used any other product other then Dawn Liquid looks great after all those years. You what to wash the roof First before the rig so you will not have the gray stuff running down the sides of your clean rig.As I stated above keep your eye on all those seems for deteriorating caulk Dicor has a great vidio for cleaning then replacing their self leveling caulk. Will be several years before this starts happening
