Tire Covers

In my part of the country, the best way to keep your tires for any length of time is to have them covered when in storage. Does any body know the outside diameter of the Montana tires? CW has a sale going on.

My trailer has 235/80/16E tires which is what I think all Montanas use. I just got a set from CW and I bought size 2 which is for 30" to 32" tires. They fit very well.

You might also want to be aware that having those tires stand on cement for a long period won't do them any good.

That's what I've heard, anyway. Supposedly there's some reaction between the rubber and the cement.

If anyone knows better, I'd appreciate the knowledge, because I plan on getting a couple pieces of thin plywood ready in case I ever stay at a campground with cement sites for more than a few days.

Use those cheap plastic place mats and put one under each wheel. Works great to keep the tires off the cement.

For years I've been putting a 2 x 12 x whatever length I need of treated lumber under the tires...TT, power boat trailer and sailboat trailer, worked for all of them.

I use RV levelers under each wheel to prevent contact with the driveway.

Then I wasn't out of my mind when I brought that up.

Whew!

I hate it when that happens.

I like the idea of the plastic place mats. I was contemplating using the treated 2" X 10" boards I have for when I need to either level it, or avoid sinking into a soggy site.

I hang onto those boards because they store easily in my TV's bed, (and wouldn’t be likely to be stolen,) rather than my trying to find a place in the already over-booked basement for those levelers. But they'd do as well if I had the room!
