Leaf Spring Correct Trak, Shackles and Wet Bolts

Can't remember if I posted a out this but here goes anyway. We almost got bit big time. While I was prepping the rig for our Alaskan trip this summer I was pulling each wheel, checking, cleaning and adjusting brakes and greasing the EZ Lube axles and wet bolts when low and behold I discover that on the right rear we had one missing along with the Correct Trak plates.
Now I know it was there before we left Texas for Quartzsite in January as I did a pre trip check of all areas but I am figuring the wet bolt must have sheared somewhere along the way.

Luckily nothing major happened enroute to Q.

I had to order a new set of Correct Trak plates and since we are making a trip to Alaska I ordered a complete set of wet bolts for all 8 connections along with 4 new shackles (as insurance).

Total cost $150 for the whole set and a out an hour of my time to replace/ fix.

So word to the wise.....put these on your routine to check regularly!

Here is a link to some pics.

Les, whom would have thought. I will be checking ours more closely tomorrow and will in the future pay more attention during my pre-trip inspections. Thanks for the pics.

Just finished doing ours last week (along with replacing the complete brake assemblies (eTrailer has some great prices!). I've heard of this happening three times now - one wasn't a wet bolt though. Guess it's something one should check more than once a year . . .

Well folks while heading out of Alaska last week we stopped in Beaver Creek at Discovery Yukon Lodge just over the border. In the CG was an Alpine sitting a couple of spaces away from us. I got to speaking with the owner and it turns out they were sitting there for 7 days waiting and trying to find the correct wetbolt length and plates for the Lippert Correct Trak spring hanger.
Luckily I ordered an entire new kit for both axles before we left for Alaska. I gladly gave him a bolt and he already had a small shop make the plays for him.
Don't have to tell you the wetbolts were dry!
Not sure at this point I even like the system as you have hollow bolt basically sitting on 2 shear plates with a slot that rub multiple ways during travel just waiting to cut them off!
FYI....Make sure you check you bolts, connections and grease the bolts and axles.

It cost the guy in the Alpine time and a lot of mone as he also lost 2 nice G614 tires and since they did not have them he had to get two other ST tires while in CA!

Preventative maintenance helps a lot!
