Window seals
I've noticed that the window seals across the top of our rear window and a couple of side windows has deteriorated pretty badly and is pealing and flaking off. What have some of you down to fix this?

Sorry about that...
I notice mine are a bit dry too - just haven't thought about a fix, tho.

ours is doing the same thing. what I think I am going to do is scrape away around the edge and apply a small bead of silicone caulk around them. at least that's the plan...

Frankly that's my current plan also, just wanted to see if there were some better ideas out there or some reason I shouldn't do that.

Don't know about Montana as I haven't pulled a window yet but on my Sunnybrook the windows didn't use butyl or any other kind of tape. It used closed cell foam tape. It has an adhesive on one side that you remove a release tape kinda like Eternabond. Works great and much easier to clean off if you need to remove it. The foam tape is about 3/8" thick and seals well.

Now the question would be, if only the edges of the old tape are fraying should I do the whole process or will the silicone be all I really need to do?

I just did mine like in the video with black tape. I actually had a leak in my big back window. You need help with the big window, it is very heavy. My windows are dual pane. I personally believe your better to replace than seal the edges. With the better quality tape it should not need it again.

I think you should not use silicone on your RV. I saw someplace where it would not last and was hard to remove if there was a problem. This is the stuff I saw that is made for RV repair

One thing that I would suggest:
Make the butt seam of the sealing tape at the bottom edge of the window opening, and not on the vertical edge (like they show in the vid) and not on the top edge either. ....and skip the silicone bead.
