battery box heater
todays prep for our upcoming trip.
i had a 1250w 2amp 110v blanket heater used on 55gallon drums.
i wrapped the battery box, lithium inside, and taped it up as best i could.
ran the power to the inverter so i could run it on the road.
heats blanket to 90 degrees. box top showin 78.
kinda ugly but it should work.
i have never posted a pix from the phone so fingers crossed...

I have a 12v tank heater sandwiched between my Lithiums

I got the Dragonfly 100AH batteries on the new 2024 with 400system and they are supposed to have internal heaters. So far with several weeks of 20s and 10s temps we haven't have any issues. I have temp sensors all over and with the furnace on overnight 18degs, set at 68 the underbelly and battery compartment only get to 37deg low. I don't think i need to add anything additional at this point.

I don't know anything about Lithiums, but for 'normal' batteries, keep them plugged in, that's all you have to do.

That has to be a unique heater blanket to make 1250 watts and only drawing 2 amps. Usually, 1250 watts draws about 10 amps at 120 volts.

Cat320 Just a quick information response. LITHIUM batteries will be damaged when charged at below freezing temps. However they do have a Battery management system (BMS) built in to shut them down for Overtemp conditions and SOME also shut of charging when battery is at below freezing temps. There are also some that offer an internal heater build inside making below it possible to continue charging in freezing weather.
The lithium battery is still able to suppley power when below freezing but the charging needs to stop.
Hope this simple explanation sheds some light on this subject for you.

If they have a BMS they wont charge below 32 degrees. 12 volt tank heaters work great. You may as well disconnect the battery box vent pipe as lithium's don't require venting.

Thanks for that data, very informative. It also confirms my opinion that I will not get Lith's until the price comes way down and they are as easy to use as 'standard' batteries.
