I have a curt 24 and love it. For best price go to etrailer.com you can buy the Q24 for less than $10 more than the Q20. Have in 2014 Ram 3500 with factory set up for hitch nice. Tom

Just remember getting the higher rated hitch doesn't allow you to exceed other tow ratings, but tomNtrisha's recommendation to get a better hitch for about $10 more is not a bad price or idea.

Is this hitch in two pieces? I only ask because I often (just about every time) remove the hitch so the bed is empty for carrying other things while my RV is set up in the campground. Many don't remove it, but if you want to, I will warn you the single piece will be real heavy.

You can remove the head of the hitch by removing 2 pins on mine. To remove mine just unlatch the 4 pucks and lift the hitch out of the bed. Takes less than 5 minutes time everything is out of the bed. Tom happy camping.

Excellent choice. Great American made product. On our third year with Q24. Looks new with exception of labels. Extremely well made product. It will stand with the best of them!

We've had a Q20 since getting our Monty. It's been a great one for us. I can still put it on and take it off our truck at 71. Only complaints are that one zerk is impossible to reach (I smear grease on the jaw's pivot point instead), and their customer service seems to be unavailable by email. Two of the rubber grommets that the large pins holding the head go through have begun falling apart. This doesn't seem to affect anything, but I can't find replacements anywhere thus far.

We have had a Q24 for a year now, and extremely happy with it. Far superior to our old Reese.

Q20 here and wouldn't leave home without it . I got tired of the Reese pivot heads wearing out the non greasable pivot pin even if Reese replaced two.
Walt ... all you need to do is call Curt (800.798.0813) and ask for customer service or parts ... they are warm bodies on the end of the phone line and will sell you a kit that includes the rubber bushings. Very easy to replace.

I bought my curt 20k from JC Whitney for $200.00 less than E-trailer but the mounts were better priced at e-trailer

Hi

I have only separated my Curt hitch one time. It is not easy to put back together.

When I am home I have a fork lift to remove the hitch with.

When I am at a park and need the truck for other use I just raise the front of the 5th wheel trailer until the weight is off the hitch then pull the pins and raise the trailer until the hitch is clear of the mounts in the truck. This leaves the hitch hanging on the front of the trailer.

After removing the truck I level the trailer. I also have a padlock that I lock the handle that unlatches the jaws and another pin lock that is normally used on hitch receivers that I put thru one of the pin holes to prevent theft.

I then put the American flag in a mount I have on the trailer pin box and that prevents someone from walking into the hitch.

I have now pulled our trailer 80,000 miles and the hitch is holding up well.

I measured mine after I hooked up to the new hitch and I have 6" clearance between bed rails and the camper, the instructions say that is plenty...what do you all think?

Six inches of clearance should be fine.

Phil P... I don't use your method to remove the hitch (just pull the pins a raise the front cap. I am not a fan of the hitch hanging from the pin like it would. Then there's two more problems. I use a tripod stabilizer to minimize front cap movement, so it would be difficult for me to separate the pin from the hitch hanging on it. The other problem is that I can't see my truck bed when backing and would have the hardest time trying to realign with the bed rails.

Since my Husky/Valley is weight manageable (I think each piece weighs less than fifty pounds) I can still manage them. Give me another 10 years of removing it and my age might have to make me change my routine.

Hi

We don’t find any objectionable movement in the front of the trailer when using it so we don’t us any support under the king pin while parked.

As for the reinstallation I back in until the hitch is over the rails let the trailer down until the bottom legs are in front of the rails and unlock the king pin and pull forward. The get in the back of the truck and put the hitch on the rails properly.

There is also more to this than I have indicated.

The truck is then used to move a load from the basement to the display / play area. To do this we have to have the basement floor almost the same height as the bed of the truck.
