Slide Pump and Fluid Reservoir

The fluid in the reservoir is leaking out. We had a problem with this in 2010 when we first bought the 2003 Montana. It was somewhat fixed by replacing the O-Ring between the pump and the reservoir. It continued to leak a little so we would just fill it occasionally. Now, it's leaking again when we aren't even operating the slides. Has anybody had this problem?

The older reservoirs were mounted horizontally to the pump. Thw weight of the fluid put stress on the flange where the oring is seated. I'd imagine you have a small crack in the plastic reservoir flange. The new oring helped, but didn't totally fix your issue. Now perhaps the crack has grown. When I had my 2005 Montana, I placed a piece of dense styrofoam under the outer end of the reservoir to lessen the stress on the plastic flange. You may have luck in still being able to buy the reservoir only.

On our 2005' we had a crack in the reservoir (plastic) after three years of owning. Lippert sent me a replacement at no cost to me AFTER I sent them the damaged one. They were very easy to work with.

Thanks to everyone who responded so quickly. Gave me some things to try to get it fixed before we take off for the winter.

I have a 2003 and had the same problem with the plastic tank. Any fix is probably going to be temporary as I had done mine 3-4 times. I replaced with a metal one from this company. http://www.hydraulic-supply.com No more leaks.

Do you have a part number or any info on the tank?

Do you have the part number or something to help me identify what I need? That would be really helpful.
Thanks.

At work right now. Will look when I get home. If you call the guys at the Chattanooga office and tell them what your looking for and measure the tank they have replaced many of them.

Thanks for the info. Used J B Weld to patch up where it was leaking...put it back in place with (as you suggested) a brace under the reservoir. We'll see how it holds up.

I got hold of Frank at the Chattanooga office...very helpful. 423-553-8854. I've ordered the reservoir, a new cap and an o-ring. Including shipping it set us back about $100. If it works it will be worth every penny. For your information (and anyone else interested), I asked for part numbers and this is what he gave me: Reservoir P/N 2280450; Cap P/N 2500006; o-ring is a standard 348 o-ring. Barnes originally built the reservoir for Lippert. Barnes went out of business and sold to Halodex who has subsequently sold to Concentric...the part numbers I listed are from Concentric.
Thank you very much for the valuable information. I'll let you know how it fits together once the parts arrive. My question is, 'How can you see the level of fluid if the reservoir is metal?'

I ordered a tank from the same Company for the 2955rl we had. Don't remember the part no. and let all files go with Rv. I had to move the fill hole to rear of tank. It wasn't much trouble to do. It never leaked another drop after that. When a person installs a new o-ring they tend to over tighten the bolts and the tank deflects between the bolts.

A 348 O-ring is too big, its 4-3/8" and almost 1/4" cross section.
What you need is a 153 Buna-N, probably a 70 Durometer, which is around 3-1/2" and around 3/32" Cross Section. A 90 Durometer might be too hard. I used a 70 and it worked great. I got mine at "The O-Ring Store" for about 50 cents not including Shipping. Just in case anyone is interested.
