Clearance between 5er bottom and truck sides
The corner of the pin box hardpoint on the trailer is damaging the top of the pickup's bedsides. I have a rubber mor ryde on a 3455SA. the hitch is a 24k superglide. The pinbox is set deep into the hardpoint but if I lower it the three bottom bolts will not go through the "prongs" on the hardpoint. Suggestions please.

Previous problems of a similar type were sometimes resolved by cutting the corners of non-structural portions of the pinbox. Your terminology is new to me, not sure what you are calling the "hardpoint"?

D2IKType,
If you decide to nip the pinbox it might look like this. I had to nip my pin box on the 08 2955RL so it would clear the top bed rails on my 08 Chevy. Joe

Joe, what did you cut it with? I am guessing an angle grider would work with a good cutting wheel.

I used an angle grinder with a thin metal cutoff wheel. The thin wheel made it easier for me to follow a straight line. It was an easy job.
As a side note. On the 2010 we have has a shorter pinbox was installed and does not hit the rails on the same truck we used for the 2008. So nipping was not necessary.
To nip or not to nip is one of those things one has to decide for themselves. As the fabricator in Elkhart told me "sometimes you just have to do what you have to do".

I put a little ding in one of our tonneau cover rails on a tight turn. Now I just watch what is going on there as well.

Same problem. I am looking at a 2015 3500HD SWR Crew Cab Standard (short) box to replace my '04 2500HD - same config except the old TV is an extended cab (long bed is out of the question). I have a Reese 18k round tube slider, and the long MOR/ryde (RPB72-1716 16.5k) pin box on my '11 3465SA barely clears my existing TV now (even after raising the hitch one set of holes). The new chevy boxes are 1.7" higher than the old ones.
Contacted MOR/ryde - no help, other than to say the RPB72-1116 could be a replacement BUT it is 6" shorter. He was more concerned about cab clearance than bed clearance. HELLO - if I can't turn w/o tearing up the bed rails I certainly don't have to worry about the cab. He didn't seem to grasp that concept. Also (correct me if I'm wrong), I think Keystone is shipping all new Montana's w/the shorter (#1116) pin box.
Several other members have raised their hitches to the top set of holes, and lowered the pin box by one hole. Any thoughts/suggestions. Don't mind buying a new pin box (cheaper than a new rig), but wanna make sure that'll solve the problem...

I have the long pin box on my 3455 also. I nipped the corners pretty much as shown in an earlier posting. It seems to have given me enough clearance now that I don't think it could hit. I had hit my tonneau rails before I nip
ped the hitch. Problem solved without buying a shorter pin box. I used a metal cutoff blade on my rotozip saw.

Our 2014 model did come with the shorter pin box than the 2011 3750 extended pin box. The difference is obvious when one looks at the clearance from the back of the truck to the front battery and generator compartment area.

A year later, I now know it is called a pin box and I solved the issue by raising it out of the way (no holes showing at the bottom). The 2012 Chevy box is deeper than the 2004 Ram's. Sorry it took so long to let you know all of you helped.

I had to do the same with my 2012 Chevy long bed. My pin box was on the middle row of holes when I got my 5er. It contacted the track on my BakFlip cover one time when I was backing up at about a 45 deg angle. I noticed it before I went any further. No real damage just a little scrape on the track. I dropped the pin box to the lowest row of holes which raised the tow height. The camper rides a little nose high. Now I don't have to worry about hitting my bed rail no matter how sharp I turn...well at least until I hit the cab....
