I came across a University of California Riverside study that found that commercially cooked hamburgers cause more air pollution than diesel trucks,I had to take a double take. Burger joints pollute more than diesel trucks? Who knew? The study which focused on commercial char broilers found in burger restaurants, said the equipment generates grease, smoke, water vapors and combustion products, which emit a large amount of particulate matter into the air. "For comparison,an 18-wheeler diesel engine truck would to drive 143 miles on the freeway to pur out the same mass of particulates as a single charbroiled hamburger patty."said Bill Welch, the principal engineer.I hate to bring this up as I'm on a first name basis at my local fast food joints.

I guess another consideration is how dangerous are the pollutants. I would much prefer the smell of burning grease and meat to an engine's exhaust going up my nose and into my lungs. While a pollutant is a pollutant, was there any consideration which pollutant is more dangerous? That's what I would worry about. Does this mean a charbroiled burger patty is more polluting that a grill based patty? I would also guess that whatever smoke and pollutants these create would be far less dangerous than inhaling a building fire's smoke which has been known to be a major cause of deaths from fires.

We need to blame all this on our caveman forefathers who invented fire! They were very selfish in trying to stay warm and cook food instead of going cold and eating raw meat.

The worse news is that knowing all this isn't gonna change anything much and all this grilling (I like chicken and fish) are adding to pollution because we aren't willing to die from uncooked food or avoid driving to go get it. Such is progress.

Some biodiesel is made with used fast food cooking oil. Eating your burger while smelling the tailpipe could give you the full meal deal.

Not to mention the "after effects" of eating those greasy things that cause another kind of pollution!!! PPFFFHHHTTTT!!!! HAHAHA

I believe it's time for all RVers to take a stand and NEVER COOK BURGERS EVER AGAIN! If we boycot burgers then we can save the planet! We'll be heros worldwide . Everyone will love us and give us parades 'n stuff .

Naw, never mind......I love my burgers too much to give 'em up .

I am going to use my George Foreman and liquid smoke to do my burgers and hope they give me a free tank of Diesel for my effort.
