Electric Problem

Hi All A couple pulled in today and asked if I knew why their electric is only working on some breakers. It's a class A motorhome a Meridian the electric is run by a computer call intelltech and we have 30 amp only and it shows that their is 50 amp coming in but again only certain things are working and others are not. I told him I thought it was a computer problems and they should call the dealership, which is in Las Vegas camping World. Does anyone have any thoughts on what it might be? Thanks.

Sounds like one of the legs at the pedestal does not have power. If it is possible (not sure on a motorhome, but this is the easiest way to check on our rigs) have them switch to a 30 amp shore cord that has the 50 amp connector just to see if everything starts working, if it does, it is the pedestal and the campground should be able to fix it easily.

Bingo I already checked the pedestal power, since I am maintenance here. It was fine, this park only has 30 amps available. Steel Pony I will let them know about checking his plug on his shore cord. Thanks.

Might also make sure their main breaker inside their main panel is fully switched to the full off position, then switched back on again, just to make sure both legs of the main switch are on.

Not familiar with MH power. Does the power go thru a 2 pole breaker before it goes to any thing else? May be a bad pole on the main two pole breaker.

You say it shows it is receiving 50 amps but you only have 30 amp service. And I assume he is using a 30 to 50 adapter. So I also assume that means it is getting power on both hot wires thru the adapter to the coach.

I may be wrong, but I thought if a 30 amp to 50 amp adapter was used that only one leg of the 50 amp supply has power? Time to learn something here.

OK, since a 50 to 30 amp dog bone will supply the single phase 30 amps to both legs of the 50 amp plug, it could be as simple as a bad dog bone adapter.
Another advantage of a hardwired EMS with remote readout, lets you see if you have power on both legs.

Hi Bingo

If you use a ohmmeter you will find the 30 to 50 amp dog bone does tie the 2 lines together and supplies power to the entire RV.

A friend of mine has a Bounder motor home and lost power on one side of the unit. We checked everything we could think that might be a problem. So he calls a mobile repair service. They go to the inverter and one of the breakers had tripped.

Sorry about being so late to add my comments on this one. The Intellitec is a neat bit of electronics that senses what the hookup power is and then will adjust power on/off on the six circuits that are wired into it. Its main purpose is to switch air conditioning loads between two air conditioners when one only has 30 amp supply into the coach. But it also will drop out other loads to keep one from constantly popping the pedistal breaker. When you use a 50 amp to 30 amp "dog bone" it will connect both load sides of the 50 amp power cord to the one 30 amp hot pin that gets plugged into the pedistal. SO you have power to both hot legs in the rv...BUT only 30 amp total. With the Intellitec, it will see this as minimal power and NOT source 120 vac to some of the loads that are under its control. Situation normal, the person needs to read the manual on the Intellitec. John
