Agree with almost everyone that the fireplace is good to have, is as decorative as much as a heater, and needs to be taken out every couple of years and cleaned out. Did this to ours last fall as I had to replace several light bulbs. The debris behind it wasn't that bad (maybe the unit was built on a 'good day'?).
