suburban water heater
I am having a problem with water heater. Will heat on gas but not on elec. changed thermostat heating element nothing.Do not have voltage at heating element. 2011 Montana 3465sa. Any suggestions

do you have a switch on the tank itself or one inside? or at both locations? Did you check for a reset button behind the rubber covers on the tank?

check the switch on the unit mine was bad got a new one in the hardware store. To remove my switch I just had to pry it out.

IF you replace the switch just make sure you disconnect the battery and the shore power! If not, you could get a little surprise!

Do you need to remove the rubber cover(s) to reset the switch as our water heater doesn't seem to be working on electric either.

Parts Ed you should be able to reset the button without removing the rubber cover. Is your on-off switch okay? they are junk. have you run it on electric before? If you haven't, remember there is a switch at the bottom of the tank outside

I had similiar problem, the on/off switch was shorted out at the tank. Try pulling and bypassing, and if element fires up, that was your culprit.

Yes, I have ran the water heater on electric and have not fired it up without the heater being full of water, so I imagine that the switch is the first thing to test and then check out the element.
Will try the by-pass routine that 1retired06 suggested this weekend and see if that "fixes" the problem.

Nobody mentioned the the high limit 120v t stat switch(the left one) behind the reset cover mine went out after 2 months of ownership(so did my neighbors) 24 bucks on Ebay and held on by 1 nut and 2 wires 5 min to fix,(Turn off the power first before replacing) Walk in the park!

Yes Art, as soon I realized that I had no hot water with the switch switched on I checked the breaker(s) and they were all in the on position, so this weekend I will play RV tech.....
