I know a lot don't agree with me on this. Someone said do the math. DO the math and plan for the unexpected. Sure enough, something is going to sneak up on you to change your retirement dreams. Illness, injuries, unexpected costs and worst of all, the death of a spouse, all will change the retirement plans dramatically and in a big hurry. Unfortunately, lots of folks don't prepare thoroughly enough and end up in disappointment and bitterness. I don't plan to ever full time, and if I can't afford to travel when I want, I guess I will stay home. I like my house.

Montana Sky has got the solution to the fuel problem..If every MOC member(over 3500 of us) would lose 10% of their body weight think of all the fuel that would be saved by NOT having to haul that weight around thereby increasing the amount of fuel available. We do not need to downsize our travel plans..we need to downsize us...Someone do the math on that.... I need to take a nap....

As long as you are happy doing what you're doing, Virgil, it doesn't matter. I got past trying to justify my existence to people along time ago. Only a few people's opinions really matter to me... although I am polite when I hear, "I don't want to tell you what to do, but..." or "if it was me...". Great... have at it... it NOT you! (not verbalized). I have some "different" ideas about what is "fun and purposeful". Here's a hint ~ if your family (excluding your wife) thinks you're nuts, you're probably doing the right thing (they mean well ~ they are the closest to you and just trying to be protective). Just stay with the Good Book, and you'll be fine.
Also, the "average" person in this country retires and wastes away (putting it nicely) below the poverty level (according to Govt figures). So if the "average" person tries to give you advice on what you should be doing with your life... RUN!
*On Edit ~ what a lousy job of spell checking that was!
*On 2nd Edit ~ Still spell checking... maybe I should hire out? (are you supposed to do this BEFORE you hit the "Post" button?)

It is unbelievable ..Diesel fuel is 1.00 a gal more than gas 1.99.9 gas 2.99.9 diesel saw it in two stations this A.M at 196.9 gas 3.09.9 diesel. The private school I drive for has parked the 3 diesel international busses and we are driving the small 15/17 passenger Chevy gas mini busses. The three of us do @ 400 miles a day. Seems that the last full week of school with our regular daily runs and a few athletic trips the diesel fuel bill was over 700.00..gassers till further notice...

We're closing down better here in N.MI, Rich. $2.13/2.69. Still a little too much of a difference, but the trend here is that the gap is closing. 8 days ago it was $2.22/$3.09. I can't believe it's still that high in Ohio. Can't last... everyone seems to be dropping rapidly now.

Cheapest around here is on the Kansas Turnpike, which usually has the highest prices around. 2.319 for diesel. It's 2.399 here in Indpendence, MO. I'm sure glad we're away from those high prices out west. When I closed out the October budget I found we'd spent more than $900 for diesel in October. But we also were in Carson City for part of that month and did lots of sighsteeing, then towed the house to Virgin, UT, Flagstaff, AZ, Albuquerque, Amarillo, Oklahoma City, then up to Kansas City. With those far west prices up around 3.399 it was costing us around $100 for every 300 miles of towing. This 2.399 looks really good right now.

Sounds like you guys are getting a break. Diesel here in Az. is still aroung $2.89 Gas is down though. Around $1.99. Our friends drove today when we went shopping about 40 miles away and they drive a Peterbuilt. I felt so guilty cuz I know they don't get half of what we get when not pulling the 5'ers but it was so much fun riding in that BIG RIG, I lost that guilt really fast. Now I know how Firetruckers wife feels. Wow, you're on top of the world.

After a trip to South Carolina where I found most diesel between 2.35 and 2.45, we returned home to find a Kangaroo station on the other side of Athens for 2.31. Considering most stations on our side of town are running 2.59 to 2.69, that is worth the drive.

We are at 2.67 here in Hemet. We still think it is a concession to the Snowbirds that have been arriving this past few weeks and now the first week in December there will be a lot of them. Jusst hope it keeps coming down.
Happy trails.......................

Diesel 2.639, regular 2.659 here in Mt. Shasta CA yesterday. I'm surprised to see other parts of the country higher than CA in some cases.
