waste of money

Had a 2006 Ford Explorer given to me by a relative, it has 185,000 miles on it and has never had the oil changed by the previous owner from new. He said he just added oil if it got low (Yes this guy is that cheap). I have driven the car as a beater car for inclement weather or when I had to go to the dump for 4 years and last month gave it to my son and told him not to change the oil or filter. I suspect he will get another 5 years out of it before the car finally gives up.
Or maybe not......Yeh... explain that.

Rotella T6 for a 2018 Laramie longhorn 3500 dually. Purchased December of 2017, 16k and I change it every 5-6k. I purchased a 4-pack oil change from my local dealer for $315 and have one left. I think this is the cheapest insurance available. Ram recommends every 15k for this model year but I like to do it every 5-6k. Just my preference.....

Ford does all our maint so we use whatever Ford puts in it. We are on the heavy duty maint schedule and change oil every 3K miles . 103K thus far and all is good.

We have a winner. 'ME'. It seems I go longer between oil changes than anyone posting on this subject. Changing oil at a certain level is a ' feel good' item for most people. I never changed oil at 10 to 12,000 miles until I got this truck. I change my oil myself and decided to be a little closer to the book and still change the oil a little earlier than what's called for and I now have 86,000 miles on the truck with no problems. My oil changes are cheaper than the dealer but still fairly expensive when buying 12 quarts synthetic and filter. It's all about feeling comfortable about your decision and staying within the manufactures guide lines.

I only use synthetic oil from Ford in all my cars and truck. I have 5 fords. none of them leak. oldest is a 99 I have been using synthetic oil for a long time and wouldn't use anything else. Reason I use only Ford oil is because I am assured it's spec for my vehicle and don't have to read the label to make sure. I also get it changed at the dealer that's a good place to make friends.

Synthetic bumper to bumper. Cummins & Ram recommends changing oil and filter every 15,000 miles for regular oil. I follow the same change interval.

I know of guys that have gone longer by sending a sample to a lab.

I also change the fuel filter and water separator at the same time.

I have a 2013 Ram and run it to the console. Ram used to have a program for $200 for 4 oil changes. They recommend synthetic in the Rams and I have not had any issues.

I have 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD. I change the oil every 5000 miles. I asked the dealer about synthetic. He said don’t because the oil doesn’t get hot enough. I said okay. I’ll keep putting Rotella 15W40 in it.

That's good news. I have the 2006 F250 6.0 diesel with 126,000. Since I bought it in 2006 I've changed oil every 5000 with regular Mobil 1 Delvac. Been great so far.

I use Mobile 1 full synthetic. I change oil and filter every 5,000 miles. Never uses a drop of oil between changes. Currently at 95,000 miles. On my previous TV I used normal Rotella and had good results but I sold that one at 45,000 miles so who knows how that would have turned out.

I run Mobil synthetic, on the recommended cycle. Synthetic is worth the money , slightly longer cycles and better for the temperature variations we deal with.

Really Fellows, I have been debating with myself weather to change to sunthetic in my 2008 Duramax 3500, Or stay with the regular oil I use, Changing over to syn. might just cause problems of some sort. I guess I am from old school as years ago they used to say not to change brands of oil.

My Dad had an 1948 Studibeger and never changed oil in it. just changed the oil filter which was a couple of rolls of toilet paper in a canister. .

Synthetic is better oil no question. Is it really necessary, that is debatable. It is better for your turbo and your engine is better protected but the engine will outlast the rest of the truck anyway so why bother.
Just be sure you get what is recommended for your truck. Read the owners manual and the label on the oil and be sure it’s recommended. If not the warranty may not cover the engine.

Mobil one will not meet Fords new standards, also Full Synthetic is not 100% synthetic. Still a good product.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic in all my vehicles, boats and power equipment. I change oil in my Chevy Duramax every 5 years, whether it needs it or not. I change filters whenever the truck service indicator calls for it. At age 77, I've yet to have an oil related engine problem with any equipment or vehicle. I have to be more particular with my Citation business jet.

Use Rotella T6 synthetic in 2011 F350 6.7l. Change once a year with a filter change. Love the all year performance of the synthetic in the colder climate. Don't have to plug in block heater until -25C and still starts well. (I do plug in before temp reaches that for my own comfort when warming the truck up. Lol.) A caution about using a Ford approved synth oil to avoid possible warranty issues. The newest standard (and thus many newer oil formulations and even grades of oils) is not compatible! Go figure! You will have to check for your year of truck.

Amsoil in everything. Every 15k or 1year whatever comes first, also run Amsoil bypass oil filter.
I also use Amsoil transmission fluid in my 6 point levelup and add "Hot shot secret" transmission stiction eliminator (TSE) instead of forklift oil to remove the poping and settling of the landing gear. Ran that for 2 years and works great.

Thanks
This is correct Mobil 1 does meet Ford’s latest WSS-M2C171-F1. Specifications. It doesn’t have enough phosphorus in it allowing some engine parts to wear prematurely.
Oil will last forever but the additive package in it doesn’t and the long string of molecules in it break down. When that happened the oil becomes too thin. It’s best to go by the manufacturers recommendations. After all they are the guys that built the engine.

I have been using Amsoil full synthetic for the past 20 years. Changing oil & filter on my 2017 6.7 PS F350 DRW 4WD @ 10,000 miles. On previous truck I had by-pass filtration and did 29,000 mile oil and filter changes. Never have had an engine oil related problem.
