Black Tank Cable Problem

I have a 2016 3610RL and having trouble whit the cable going to the gate to open and close the black water tank. The plastic sleeve that covers the cable has come out of the metal that holds the handle. Can I replace the cable. In a remote spot and is hard to move the trailer. What can I do?

Valterra EZ electric waste valve only way to go. You may have to do a little grinding on a flange to make it work but once installed, Happy, Happy, Happy. I look at it this way if your going to go into the under belly, do it right. I replaced all 3 valves with Valterra EZ. I'm so glad I did. Wife is too! $166.00 each e-trailer.

I have a 2016 3000 RE, just replaced both my valves with electric valves, work great. My gray valve cable broke and since I was underneath I did both valves and had enough play in lines without cutting. One other post suggested putting switches high to avoid possible water from filling or tank flush, great idea! I had to move my solar plugin over and I was able to put gray and black valve switches side by each. there is room around the corner so to speak for the galley gray switch when I get to that. I ran a wire from the 12 volt panel to a junction box near the switches, have their own 12 amp fuse. I plan to install an 12x12 access panel in storage area for the black tank manual option on the valves. Etrailer has the best price, 3 year warranty, tested mine no seepage around the valves.

I installed four threaded rod direct pulls, all six inches or less on our 3910. Required minor rerouting of plumbing. After three years, can still open and close with two fingers.

If you repair the cable pull valves remember how you did it. You'll be doing it again. Solid rod pulls or even electrics are a lasting repair.

This is great to hear, it is so difficult to open and close ours. Where did you purchase the direct pulls?

Thanks for the info.

Valterra. On my rig, I pulled down the underbelly, rerouted some plumbing lines, using home depot materials including two rubber couplings, which will make it easy to change gaskets if required. Had to redirect the two pull locations in the convenience center, black to DS frame, gray to ODS frame, plugged the cable holes in the convenience center with rubber plugs. The other two pulls were located behind a flip door on the ODS side, and I was able to leave those two pulls in the same location within inches. Five hours on a Saturday, another hour following Sunday afternoon to reinstall the belly. I found all four cables to be way too long, with many kinks and bends. After fighting cable pulls for years, and immediate failure on the 3910 I decided I had had enough. Way cheaper than going electric.

Jim asked me, did you by chance take any pictures while you were changing them out?

On our 2015 3440RL had the trailer in the shop three times under warranty for bad cables on both black and gray tanks, final answer were replacing both cables with straight rods, no more problems. They should have built it this way from the factory!

First off, there is absolutely nothing wrong with cable operated valves. The issue lies with the way the factories install them. They choose a valve/cable package, say 72" long and just throw it in there. The cables should be installed so that from the handle they are straight for at least 6" and as short as possible with minimal bends of a radius no more than 24". The cables MUST be anchored along the way and at both ends.

I replaced all my valves and cables a few years ago with Valterra valves and cables and they have worked perfectly ever since.

Those handles sure did look impressive while the trailer was new on the lot.

I really don't care if cable systems have no inherent problems, if they don't work, they don't work for what ever reason, product, installation or what.
