Looking for an add-a aroom

We were all set to buy an add -a- room from Care free and found out they will not fit on our montana because the awning support is right up against the door flange. It seems they need about 6 inches of space between the awning support and the door.

So, my question -- has anyone else run into this problem and if so, how did they solve it -- another brand or a modification???

Dave

What is an add-a-room and how does it work?

Basically, it is a canvas sid that fits under the canopy. They are made with screens, vinyl windows and rollup sides. They usually have a zipper door to the outside but some come with a hard door. They fold up in a couple of bags for store and transport. They are not too useful unless you decide to stay in one place for a few days or more.

We shopped around a lot and thought the Carefree design was the best. Unfortunately, they don't seem to work with the Montana as there is not room enough between the awning support and door to install the add a room side.

Thanks for the reply, it looks like kind of a neat thing to have some of the time. Larry & LaVonne

We have one we bought for our last RV and have not added the brackets to the Montana and tried it out. I hope it works!

We bought a room for our 3295RK. Because of the position of the door, we had to get one that used fasteners attached to the side of the 5er. You can get away with 3 inches instead of 6 inches. You put the top fastener 3 inches from the edge of the awning. Then you attach the other fasteners to go around the door. This angles the side of the room but it doesn't seem to be a problem.

The problems that we have had are with wind. A high wind will pull the room loose from the fasteners on the side of the 5er. Also make sure the room is high enough. The awning on the 3295RK is higher than the standard room is made to accommodate.

We do like our room. I don't remember the specific brand.

Glenn,
Thanks for the idea. The Carefree is cut to fit -- all special order. They have two ways to fasten to the side of the fiver. One uses twist fasteners and the other uses an extension pole. When I looked at the display in the show room, it didn't look like the twist fastener version would fit and the pole version surely wouldn't. I'll have to go back and look closer to see if I could modify it with snap fasteners.

Dave, look for "Best" they work in AZ. and Calif. They will custom build a room for you. We had one built nine years ago and it is on its third rig.
