That is a great price. Even though I paid more for the heater in Q, I glad I got it there because the heaters can not be sold in California.

Riddle me this ... what is the benefit of a heating device that needs outside ventilation (read open a window to let cold air in) to replentish oxygen in an enclosed area? Wouldn't one have to keep a close eye on operating one of these in your RV?

We've used a propane heater we bought in Q from Mother's Heaters. It's a Blue Flame heater and will heat 20,000 BTUs. We use it during the day when needed and not at night. At night we use the furnace in freezing weather, and an electric heater in non-freezing weather. Have been operating like this for over 12 years of full timing without a problem. As for opening a window, well we don't. we have the vent over the cook stove open all the time and we are in and out so often that plenty of air comes in the rig.

What I did was cruise my local Farm Supply stores, came up with a fan powered Propane heater. I piped it up to the water heater supply line. I do not remember what I paid for it...
Works great, about 95% more efficient than the stock furnace, not good at math, the factory furnace is around 60% and this one is around 98% (as I recall) BUT you should not run it when below freezing, bad things happen below the floor when you do that.. Use the factory furnace when that cold.

I too installed one of these heaters at Q and it works great. I just set the thermostat and never had to open a window, there is enough air in these things.

I don't believe any rv is so air tight as to present a problem in using an auxiliary propane heater for daytime use- We have been fulltiming since July 1, 1999 and have always used auxiliary heaters without any headaches or other indications of any problems- A good many "unsafe" uses of a wide variety of accessories are just CYA legal declarations of the manufacturers- JMHO- Don

Don't remember the BTUs on our heater as we've had it for a few years, but I do remember it was, at the time, the biggest heater Tractor Supply sold.

I took the Mobile Home approach and provided the heater with it's own air by running the rubber hose from the 100 lb tank through a 2" clear plastic hose to the back of the heater. Hillbilly style. Granted it hasn't gotten real cold here in south Texas, but we've had several nights in the low 40's. We keep the heater on about as low a setting as it will go and it stays toasty in here.

We haven't ran the furnace even one time and the fan on the heater is a lot quieter than the furnace. I am a bit paranoid about waking up dead so I installed 4 carbon monoxide and 3 smoke detectors throughout the trailer. One has a gauge and has registered 0% and never fluctuated.

We love our heater and can't see ever using the furnace very much again. We also took Ozz's advice about wiring a switch to run the furnace fan if it gets below freezing, but so far we haven't had to use it.
