Oregon Hwy US-97 / I-90 ?

We are planning a trip up Oregon Hwy US-97 / I-90 from Weed to Seattle in September with stops at Diamond Lake RV Park, Crooked River Ranch, Boardman Marina and Lake Pleasant. How is the road and any suggestions of where to stay and what to see?

We stayed at Diamond Lake a couple years ago and really loved it, very quaint with good trails for walking.

Hwy 97 is a good two lane hwy, very straight on top, passing can be interesting as speed of oncoming traffic!! lots of trucks
If you are camping at Diamond lake you might do these side trips,Crater lake, Palina lake and if brave, go up to the top of Palina mtn, road is gravel, steep, but view is spectular. You can see five states. the black obsidian flow at Palina is awsome. Fishing at Diamond Lake is very good right now and should be good in Sept.

I'm guessing you are planning on staying at Boardman Marina and RV Resort in Boardman. It's a great park. Be sure to ask for a backup site to the Columbia river.

We stayed at Diamond Lake RV Park for a few days last year and enjoyed it. Crater Lake is beautiful, and the Paulina Lake area is also worth seeing. It is where we go fishing. We've been to Crooked River Ranch RV Park - scenery there is good and Smith Rock State Park is near.

We are in Diamond lake RV park for tonight and it is a nice campground. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. We plan to visit Crater Lake tomorrow.

Just don't do this road in August. We did that and encountered what is referred to by the locals as "the Green Rain"... Swarms of billions of very small green bugs (about the size of a gnat) that get into everything. They swarm around the Lake Klamath area (right next to Hwy 97) for several miles and cause a mess of everything. They aren't bothersome except that they seem to get everywhere. If you are driving you will run into millions of them - front end, antennas, windshield wipers, bumpers, etc. This is not for the squeamish.

Other than that I recall the road was in pretty good shape but difficult to pass on.

We stayed at friends' houses so we can't comment on RV resorts
