OK here are some photos for all to use for the screen door modification the original creator of this nifty Mod was (help me with a Name please) and you use a COATHANGER for the trigger, use whatever you want for the button, when you drill the hole for the top through the white plastic you have to have the sliding part closed so it noches out the sliding part for the wire to slide into.
The bottom is just Z bends 1/4" each. the drill holes are a bit bigger than the wire, I put some 45 deg bends in mine and tucked it in close to the frame to keep it out of the way.seing we losy all of the great pictures that Tiny pic and whoever else discontinued the maybe these can be posted in the how to folder on the wfont page.

I'll post all the pic in a few .

The MOC family of friends came through again! Today I installed the little door latch rod. I found 2 spokes at a hardware store that cost me a grand total of 25˘ for both. Drilled 2 holes in about 30 seconds and had it installed before I hardly knew it. The spoke seems to be the best choice because when I got it, it was already bent at one end with a small cap over the end which held it in place at the handle. On the other end it had threads which would normally be used on the bicycle wheel but I used those threads to twist on a wire nut for a push button. Just the right length didn't even have to cut it. It works just fine, I believe now the copper wire would have been too flimsy to use.
Here are the photos as well as a photo of the door where I installed a layer of clear plastic over some new charcoal colored screen.

Edited to correct photo links!

Great job Bill, on the latch and screen door, I have to ask what you might think is a dumb question, but here goes.
Why did you leave the screen fabric on the screen when you have plastic covering it?

Thanks for the compliment!
To answer your question… "because that’s how they do it in WV; when Bingo (bncinwv) did his he left the screen in."
""

No… Just kidding… in all honesty, I really never thought much about it; I just thought that's how I needed to fix it. I do however, think it has a twofold purpose though… for one, I think it gives a little better support for the plastic material. The other thought is that the plastic is clear and not tinted and the screen actually gives the appearance of being tinted since it’s a charcoal color.

Don,
Hate to barge in on the thread, but Bill is correct in that the screen provides needed support for the mylar material. The plastic is nothing more than a very heavy saran wrap type material, that I don't believe would do well installed by itself. By the way, Bill never gave cost totals for the plastic installation, but if I remember correctly, it is less than $5.00!! Good job on the door opener Bill!!

Sue reamed out this jewel deal and fit it to the spoke. I installed about 10 of these spokes for the folks at Branson, it is a terrific mod with the clear slider.
I am hesitant to add any weight to the screen door, it sags and catches when you look at it hard as it is.

I also added a small latch..twice.. it helps keep the cats in. And the cat burglers out, if they try to come in, the noise gives me time to grab the fly-swatter.

Ozz,
Regarding adding the mylar film to the screens, I would not think that the amount needed would even add a couple of ounces to the door weight. DW will never leave the door shut when we are inside, cold or hot weather, and I despise the thought of heating and cooling the great outdoors. The material we (Bill and I) used is available in the fabric department at Walmart in varying thicknesses. I was in a Walmart somewhere and they had a shaded variety as well and even some creative alternatives that had designs on them. I could not, however, convince myself that the front door appearance would be complemented by daisies all over it, but different strokes for different folks. I still have to do the second door this spring, hopefully I will take the initiative and photograph the process and post it.
