Bangor to Gorham

Folks,

A question related to my earlier query 'bout getting to New England: has any of you made the trip west from the Bangor, ME area along US rte 2 into NH (Gorham)? It looks pretty curvy on the map; I'm wondering about the advisability of hauling a Montana on that route. Might be smarter to take I-95/295 to Portsmouth area and head north from there. Thoughts?

Many thanks,
-Bob

One thing you are discovering is that it is not easy to go East - West in Northern New England. The main highways all seem to focus on going North and South. I did the Route 2 route to get from Vermont to Acadia but it was quite awhile ago when I had a pop-up. If I remember correctly, it is a pretty curvy route that goes through many little towns and therefore can be a little slow. However, I don't remember any reason to worry about taking your Monty over that route but I'll bet someone more familiar with it will come along and correct me if I'm wrong.

Take the Interstate to Newport and get on 2 there. The whole route is a pretty drive but it may be slow going in places. There are some passing lanes and long stretches of little to no traffic but there are plenty of place where slow going is the rule. The only real confusing place for you will be going through Mexico and Rumford. Pay attention and follow the signs and you will be OK. There is no reason at all not to haul the Montana on that road. (I live 25 miles south of Bethel on Route 2 and drive that route a lot)

Ditto to the above folks. My last trip on Rt 2 was also with a pop up, back in 99 or so, but it is an OK road and more scenic than the Interstate. As far as the time involved goes, do you REALLY care?? Oops, you may be one of those with a JOB! Sorry....

Well, you're quite right - we DO indeed have a job! We're the reps for Trailerlife Directory/Good Sam. Otherwise, as you implied, I wouldn't care how long it took. Thanks for the input!
