Canada gun laws
I have a friend with S.O.B. who is traveling to Canada. They carry a pistol and believe it would be taken away at the border. But they are not sure about a rifle or shot gun. I told them some of our Canadian neighbors on the forum would be able to tell me.
Thanks Lou

Tell him to leave them at home. Then put a NRA decal in his window, it'll drive them crazy. g

They will have to be going to a competition to bring in a hand gun. long guns you maybe able to by a permit to bring them in but check with Canadian Customs.

When I left Alaska I inquired about this and found out; #1: Handguns a no-no for sure, And #2: Long guns and shotguns permitted IF you have a valid reason, i.e. hunting permit or competition, however you must be able to show proof of that at the border. Needless to say, I did not cross the border with a firearm.....

I don't understand "leave them at home" If you have a need to travel with them in the states you should have the same need to travel with them in Canada. I know pistols are prohibited but understand shotguns are permitted. If the Canadian law permits why would one not take advantage of it. I do agree the NRA sticker does drive them nuts.

That's just what you need, isn't it? More hassle at the border. I would think it smarter to observe the law and respect the wishes of those you wish to visit. Just as Canadians going South should respect the laws and customs of those who live in America.

We just hosted the Alabama State IDPA pistol championship and had 2 shooters from Canada register. In order for them to bring thier pistols across the border they needed a letter of invitation from our club. We sent them the letter yet no one asked or checked them @ the border. They were traveling in a Coleman Class C pulling 4 very nice Harleys. Steve

What if you took your pistol and turned it into a rifle? Do you think adding a stock and a really really long silencer will be acceptable? Just tell them you are going hunting for really loud wild animals and didn't want to make too much noise. NOT!!! Okay, I'll admit it. That was not that funny.

It is the period on the end of the link that causes the error, it should be: http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/f...visite-eng.htm

It is also true that the U.S. has restrictions on bringing guns into the country. If you take them out of the U.S., you should make sure that you can bring them back home with you.

WE live near the Canadian border.Leave the fireams at home. Yes you can do it but not worth the trouble if just on a visit. Been hunting up there many times using non restricted firearms. It is their Country and their laws.
