Weird Science w/Toilet Chemicals

Was camping last week. Had about 2 ounces left in a container of Odorlos and a new container of TST. Needed 4 ounces so just figured I use the 2 oz of Odorlos and 2 oz of TST. Mixed them and immediately formed a semi-solid substance that looked like dissolved toilet paper. Decided I'd better not use this concoction.

Anybody seen anything like this? I figured most of these chemicals were pretty similar. Glad it didn't blow up or catch fire!

Glad you mentioned this! We have been known to change chemicals if our current brand is unavailable. Guess I'd better pay attention to this issue!

cdrr,

I'm not sure what is in these products you mentioned but a caution, never ever mix two neat (raw) chemicals together, this is very dangerous.
You were lucky the products you mixed didn't cause a noxious gas or cause an explosion.

accuprep, you are absolutely correct! In a previous life, I spent 17 years in the fire service. No one realizes what is setting under their kitchen sinks and that if anything happened that some of those cleaners and solvents were mixed together in the exact right amounts, all heck would bust loose.

In those years, I spent hundreds of hours studing to become a Master Firefighter in fire ground tactics and investigation. The things I learned and in way too many situations seen, is something I wish everybody could experience at some point in their lives.

mime,

I wish they could too, I work with chemicals everyday in our business. Like you said if people only knew what two of those products under their sink mixed together would do.

cdrr,

I didn't mean to imply that you made a silly mistake! I have done those kinds of things myself. It has just not been our time to leave this earth, yet. The Big Man above has been watching over us. I know for a fact that I've been in situations, especially back then in that former life, that something should have happened to me. It didn't for two reasons. I was there with trained men and women and God was watching us. I simply have no other explanations.

Steve, that's me ,too. I registered for MOC at my desk in the office the other day. MIMF2 was the first thing that came to my mind. Now everybody can contact me there, "2" or too. Kinda' a poor play on words, isn't it?

Dale, you should be able to log on with the same userid no matter which computer you are using. However, do whatever makes you happy!

Cdrr, I'm glad you posted this. I know those who are familiar with chemicals know all this already but to the common layman, like me, if one is good then two should be better. Or not. I wouldn't have a clue until something exploded.
