50 amp power cord storage?

I like having 50 amp power but have yet to come up with a good way to store it. The easy way is to just throw it in the back of the truck but I know one of these days that cord will grow legs and disappear. How do all of you store your cord?

I keep mine rolled in a 5 gal pail. Then I just unroll what I need to reach the plug in. I also have a 30amp shorter cord which I use most of the time, just dont like the heavy stiff 50amp cord, especially now with colder weather.

We keep ours rolled up in a plastic "clothes" basket. Works like the 5 gallon pail that RonS uses..... as a matter of fact I will probably start using a pail also. Good idea. One of those auto wind up things would be nice!

Ours is also in a laundry basket. When I can I just pull each end out, like RonS does. When I do have to pull it completely out, when time to put it back in the basket it seems easiest to put one end in the bottom, then feed the cord as I turn the basket. Easier to get it coiled into the basket that way. It's easiest (very relative term) when it's hot outside. When cold, it's a bear no matter what method is used. We use the 30 amp cord most of the time but in winter when we need to run electric heaters I tend to use the 50 amp monster.

We use the laundry basket also. What I do is keep the trailer end out enough to plug it in and place the basket under the corner of the trailer. Then I coil the rest of the cable into the basket. When we set up, I only uncoil the amount needed to plug in and keep the rest neatly coiled in the basket and tucked under the corner of the trailer.
This way we only have to recoil the amount we pulled out and it's easier to carry.

Also, I prefer the laundry basket to the 5 gal pail because, if left outside, rain water can escape from the basket.

I use a rectalgular milk crate. It is pushing the sides out a little but works well. I keep the 30 amp adapter in there too. I also carry a 30 amp cord and a 30 amp extension cord. The 2 lighter cords ride in the curbside propane bottle compartment.

I also use the laundry basket to store. I have yet to be in campsite that did not need the full length of cord extended when in use. I also have the 30 amp cord, but when I have 50 amp service I use 50 amp service.

The 50 amp cord is a bear, but it does keep you in shape! I consider time spent with it a little mini workout.

NJ Hillbilly, how do you get that huge cord coiled into the milk crate? I assume this is the standard plastic crate available at walmart and other stores. It seems the coils would be small and the cord too long to fit. Thank you.

On ours I just coil it up and store it in the front compartment. We keep all our adapters in a 5 gal bucket also stored in the front compartment. We have been at some campgrounds that we used the full cord plus a extension on the 50 amp cord. When cold it can be fun to coil up.

Our 02 3280RL has a lower shelf on each side in the large compartments. We put a 1x6 long enough to reach front to back in the door way on the left side. This gave us a narrow area that we store the cord in a figure eight style. Easy to get our and still store other small things under the cord. Treecounter

I found the easiest way to store the 50 amp cord was to leave it in the garage. As I only need 30 amp. I bought the 50 - 30 reducer and take the 30 amp cords I had with us. It stores easy in a milk carton box.

We coil ours into a small, green rubbermaid container with the lid. When not in use it's stored on a rug right inside the door of the unit and when in use it's under the trailer by a tire so no water gets in it. It works great and very easy to use, plus there aren't any holes in it to get wet or water in the tub.

I'm with Bill on this one, can't use 50 amps anyway, so why drag that thing around with us? Bought a nice light, flexible 30 amp Marinco cord from Camping World - expensive, but it saves my back.

Ditto for us. The 30 is MUCH easier to handle. I did suffer from sticker shock with the 18 inch (or so) adapter from CW. However, I won't go back unless I develop a need for the 50.

I usually leave mine coiled in the laundry basket that the dealer provided, when we hook up I simply pull out what is needed. I did try setting it in the ledge inside the basement compartment. It worked well, but when hooking up I had to pull the whole thing out and then rollup the whole thing back on the ledge. It was more work, plus most places the electric hook-up is very close to the rear of the RV.

It is under the bed! We rarely use it and it took up a lot of room in the basement, so we got rid of the laundry basket, and the 50 Amp is under the bed. Only time we have used it so far is when we were in Texas for 6 weeks, same campsite. Otherwise, we do with the 30 Amp cord.

Wow,
We use the 50 amp a WHOLE bunch! Seems like most of the good campgrounds offer it and it has come in handy when the temps are in the 90s or 100s. We also use the laundry basket that came with the rig. It provides neat storage for the cord that is not in use and we just "poke" it under the rig out of site, out of the way, nice and neat.

I just coil it up and keep it in the front storage compartment. It gets a little tough to coil when the weather turns colder so I have to use a little more effort
