We are long timers and have always had the all in one unit on board. They are small and inexpensive.

We carry an Epson Small-in-One. Use it seldom, but when you need it you need it. Stored it in a cabinet over the TV on our 3402RL. Problem was, needed to align the heads once due to rough ride (no biggie). Other problem is, print heads dry out (a real problem if you don’t use it often). You waste a lot of ink cleaning the heads and the ink isn’t cheap. For us, would be cheaper to buy a new one, regularly on sale for $49 at OfficeMax and put the limited ink supplied with the new one in when we need it. We have one on the RV right now that I’d have to waste $50 to 60 of ink to clean out. YouTube has cleaning videos, but looks like a mess to do.

Can’t help you much, when you need it you really need it. I haven’t found a good work-around.

If you don’t like to buy EXPENSIVE ink cartridges get an Epson that you put bottles of ink in, in place of ink cartridges. A bottle of ink is $12 and will print 4500 pages.

I like this idea. I have a HP sale price about $50-60, but ink cartridges are about $60-70 for the pair. They could give you a FREE printer and still make a fortune off the ink!!! Didn't use the one in RV for a few months and it showed nearly full ink....but was all dried out , ended up replacing. Wasted $60-70. Gonna try Epson next time. Thanks.

It's almost cheaper to throw the printer out and buy new rather then buy cartriges. I've found some low buck cartridges on AMAZON for our 4 in 1 S&B printer that are refills but seem to work as well as OEMs.

I bought an HP 1010, I think it is. On sale at Walmart for $30. I forget what the cartridges cost, but on my home HP Photosmart 8050 a color/black set is over $90 and I haven't found anything cheaper. I tried an online black(I think) that was maybe $15. The printer wouldn't recognize it.

I have only used the one for the RV once each summer (3 month trips), so I really don't want to buy a new cartridge every summer.

The problem with these Epson printers is like almost all printers is, if you print photographs they will not last. This goes for almost all standard printers. If you wont your photos to last you need a photo printer. The Epson photo prints will last 200 years, or so Epson says. I’m going to stick around to see. I have pictures in my shop that were printed on the shop printer and ones printed on the photo printer. The ones printed on the photo printer and hung up for over 10 years are still crisp and clear the ones printed on the standard Epson or HP add faded to the point they should be thrown away.

I get new HP cartages for $30 a set. Use one set per season. This year in fact when I went back in the ink was still good.
Seems Shack likes the Epson with bulk ink. I haven't priced that out yet.

I get my ink from https://www.ldproducts.com/ at the fraction of the price of the name brand. They are guaranteed, I have only had one bad one.
