You are correct. I have looked at the Alpine and the Avalanche and the Alpine is very comparable to the Montana and in some instances had things that I liked better than the Montana. The Alpine and Avalanche wasn't as popular as the Montana so not as many were made and I would think the Montana would resell better than the other two even though none of the rv's resell very well anyhow.

We just bought the 2019 3931, the master bedroom is wonderful and the second bathroom is great, my mother-in-law camps with us and that makes things much nicer. We traded a 36’ Cougar 5thwheel I thought moving to the larger trailer would be a challenge but it wasn’t, the backup camera is spectacular making backing up a breeze. It travels with eez, I drove to Atlanta in a business trip during a storm and it was amazingly smooth. The disc breaks work so well, love the trailer BUT I will never buy another trailer from Camping World, they fix one thing but break or destroy another, what a bunch of monkeys. That’s all I have to say about that.

We had an Avalanche and had major issues with it.
The suspension is horrible and it was cheaply constructed.

Now we have a 3931FB which is a great unit but when we make a change we will go smaller. The Montana is one of the better lines that Thor Industries owns.

Went from a 2001 2880 31' long to a 2010 3000RK 35 1/2 long and have lived in it for 5 months with no regrets. Would not consider going bigger. Easier getting into our Oregon state parks. Wish the bathroom was bigger, but we deal with it.

Wow, what a tough choice you have to make between the 2. I can see the benefit of the front living room for the family, completely on the other end of your bedroom with lots of room for them to sleep. We have the 3931 and went with it due to the massive amount of storage in kitchen and bed/bathroom. The second bath was a bonus that the wifey liked. Good luck with your decision.

Also to consider is some states limit the over length of your trailer as well as the combined length. AAA has a chart for every state and lists some good info that is helpful.

I bought a 2017 HC 370BR. I had thoughts of removing two of the drawers to make a desk and have an office. My wife has oil paints, watercolors, her sewing machine, and tons and tons of crafts in there instead. During evacuation for Florence my daughter spent the week with us and it was great she had privacy as well. Grandsons are 16, we stopped asking if there was anywhere in the US they wanted to go. They did spend ONE night in the 5er.
We just returned today after 3 months in FL. We went to this from a 35' 5er and have never looked back. We spend about 6 months in it every year!

We have not had difficulty with our 40 footer. Go bigger rather than smaller especially if you spend a lot of time in your unit. Grandkids will sleep anywhere and will probably spend far less time with you than you think especially as they grow older.

We're a retired grandma and grandma. I bought my 3400RL as a retirement trailer. 6 years later, I sold it for a 10 ft shorter trailer. I was tired of not being able to take my grandkids into the National Forest campgrounds where I love to go. The Montana was too long, too tall, and too little ground clearance. Besides, it wasn't built for guests. One pull out sofa bed that leaked air. I hated it. I'm sooo much happier now with my SOB 5th wheel with off-road suspension, easy sleeping for 4 additional full-size guests, and no air beds! I don't worry nearly as much about roof damage from low branches either. My Montana was a fish out-of-water in the places I love to take my grandkids. Glad that's behind me.

I have a 2017 40 ft Alpine with 6 slide outs. So far I haven't had any issues at camp grounds or RV parks. I've owned a Laredo and an Avalanche. The Avalanche is in the category with the Cougar as the Alpine and Montana are at the top of Keystone line. My Avalanche was 36 ft long with rear living. My Alpine is front living. As others have said, more room is better however you need to consider the extra weight. My 2018 F350 pulls it with ease.

From personal experience, make yourselves comfortable and happy. The g-kids will not care about beds, etc. They care more about who they are with, what they are doing and where they are.

We own 3 fivers. Two set up semi permanent and one we travel with. The largest is a 37’ (16000#) Mobile Suites we bought new in 2004 and pulled it around the US until 2 years ago when we bought a used 34’ (11000#) Monty to travel with. I got tired of pulling that big heavy DRV around. We have been full timing for 8 years in it. Many, not all, of the state, national and COE parks are tough to get into. We have no problems since we travel in the 34’. Three feet make a difference when you park in the trees.

Since there are only the two of us and as long timers we live most of the year in the Montana we got the biggest we could afford the 06 3400 and now the 13 3402.

We went with the 3950FB so we had an office or second bedroom for adult daughter. The 41' isn't a problem and we have never had an issue with finding a place to stay. We love the room and storage but as mentioned above, get what you like. Shop around.
