My neighbor bought the Sailun S637 tire 14 ply for his 30' 5th wheel. I'm sure he has the 80psi rims on his trailer and said he thought they were running 95 psi when he had them mounted. Is that safe to run 95 to 100 psi on a 80psi rim? If he ran 80 psi on the Sailuns, would that damage the tires?

If the wheels are rated for 80 psi it is for cold tires (not having run for at least a couple of hours) at 70 deg. F. Raise/Lower 2 psi for every 10 deg. change. I.E. 60 deg=78 psi. If the S637's are run at 80 psi the have the same weight capacity as a load range E.

Sailun has a weight/PSI ratio chart and it begins at 80#. I ran Carlisle LR F tires at 95 PSI on 80# wheels for years without a problem but would not suggest doing so. At 95# get rid of the rubber valve stems. The added pressure can cause problems. I was told that can cause leaks around the bead and even pin hole leaks in the wheel, especially aluminum wheels.

I have that chart somewhere and if needed PM and I'll dig it up.

I put the sailuns on my 3455sa this past spring and have had no issues in 5000 miles of towing with them. You would not believe the weight difference between an ST tire and any G rated tire until you try to lift each one. Get the Sailuns, you will not be disappointed.

PSI = 80 psi

Is there a resale market for lightly used RV tires? I need to get the trailer home from the dealer about 300 miles. The Provider tires were put on by the dealer and are brand new so they'll only have 300 miles on them. What can I expect to get for them? 80 cents on the dollar? 50 cents?
I had about 3000 miles on my China Bombs when I switched to Sailun's. I sold the 4 on the ground for $100 the first day they were on Craig's List, pretty sure I could of got more since I had multiple inquiries.

The Keystone brochure for 2011 indicates that an • Under Mount Spare Tire and Carrier were included. Did you check underneath?

Thanks for the info.

The dealer said there isn't a spare included. I could ask the dealer to check (but I'm hesitant to do that, if they see one undermounted there they might take it off and say it wasn't there and then try and sell it back to me...)

I'm 300 miles (4.5 hours) from the dealer, so I can't really just pop over and check.

Maybe the salesperson was expecting the spare to be on the back bumper, and doesn't know it's there because it's undermounted?

The gamble is:
A) Spend about $150 now to order a tire and wheel but may not need it if one is already there and the dealer missed it, or

B) Spend $0 now and take the chance that a spare is undermounted and if one isn't there, then spend $300 at the dealer to buy a spare when I get there, or

C) Spend $0 now and go the 300 miles home and hope I don't need to use my Good Sam Roadside Assistance membership

The more I think about it, the more risky it is to ask them to check the RV if a tire is undermounted.

Whatever you do, get a tire pressure monitor system too. Like TST or others. If you get a nail or something you can run out of air, blow out the tire and cause your $4000 damage. The TPS costs about $250. Seems like a smart move. I have the things that just screw in over the valve stems. You could buy the package and install it before you head for home and feel much safer. I had a screw that fell out, I think. My monitor went of and within a minute I was under 30-35 lb. Was pulled over and within another 2 minutes I was on the rims. With 2 wheels on a side, you may not notice you have a flat right away. Research other posts here about TST and most people agree with my comments.

I had the tire shop order Sailuns and drove from the dealer to the shop to have them replaced, about 50 miles. He gave me $150 for all 5.

What brand tires did you sell to the shop for $150 and how many miles were on them?

I think I'm gonna call the RV dealer and ask if they can sell me Sailuns and give me credit for the Provider tires they put on there, and mount them.

If not, I'll take the Providers home 300 miles (hope for the best!) and order Sailuns sent to my local tire shop and see if they'll give me anything for the slightly used Provider tires, and if not, it's craigslist time.

Another strange name ~~ they were Rainier with 50 miles from the dealer to tire shop and about 1200 from IN to the dealer in SC.

Rainier's rate right up there with Marathons. Very good Friends bought a new Jayco and on our Canadian Maritime Caravan they went through all 5 tires. Broken belts, big bubbles in the side walls and one that exploded luckly with minimum damage.

The only thing I researched was the PSI of the wheels. When I saw Rainier I knew they would go before the 1st trip. Never heard of them, good or bad, until I had them ~~ thankfully for only a day.

Scott. Seeing that you are picking it up from a dealer should mean that you haven't loaded it up with your own items. Don't over think it and just drive it home. Put the sailuns on after you get home but before you go camping.
Enjoy your new rig without getting stressed before even picking it up.

Thanks. I'm freaking out a bit with all the must-do's and stuff to buy... :-)

At this point, my goal is to just get it home 300 miles safely and in one piece without incident. The dry weight on the 2011 347THT is 10,830 lbs

I do hope you are going to spend a few days at the dealership to go over the PDI. If so you could do as I did. Called Discount Tires and had 4 new tires ready to be installed. Drove 5 miles to the tire store swapped out the tires and they gave me $75.00 for each old tire. Said the farmers love them as they don't use them all that much.

One more thing be sure to have them balanced with the proper method. You want luge centric balance. If they don't have the proper equipment or don't know what this is go somewhere else. DO NOT let them try to tell you they don't need to balance trailer tires or their hub centric machine will work. Anything spinning at 60 to 70 miles an hour needs to be balanced.

All I can say is the TST 507 I installed this year is worth its weight in gold. It tells me the PSI & tire temperature in each of my trailer & truck tires (including both spares) going down the road. I will never tow without a TPMS again. They take soooo much worrying away from you so you can concentrate on your driving. You can set alarms for low tire pressure/ high tire temp etc.

Yep forgot to mention that TST like Beeje said one of the best investments for worried free driving.

The one thing I forgot Scott is to check the tire air pressure at the dealer before leaving and make sure they are at 80 lbs. I would then go with your option "C" or go to a auto wrecker and buy a used tire and rim if you are a real worry wart.

Hey guys, just to update what's happened with all this -- I bought a Sailun S637T tire and a basic steel wheel and 100+ PSI valve stem and had the tire mounted as a spare, before I drove 300 miles to the dealer to buy my Montana 347THT trailer.

The dealer had told me, "There's no spare included". Even though as was mentioned here that the factory spare is undermounted, I didn't want to chance that the dealer missed it, so I bought the spare.

The dealer missed it. It was the first thing I looked for. Sure enough, the factory spare was undermounted under the rig.

I bought the 347THT, kept the new Provider 10-ply tires on it and drove home 300 miles at about 50-60mph the whole way. I felt reasonable well that I had the Sailun tire and Good Sam Roadside for my backup.

We arrived safely, exhausted, and at night. Not the best combo for my first tow of anything ever. I totally dig my 347THT and my Dodge Ram, everything went well. I'll be swapping out the Provider tires for Sailun tires before I get on the road for the Spring or Summer.

Thanks for all your help and suggetions.
