King pin hard, head soft

I did some crisis intervention at a recent plant explosion. They insisted that I don a hard hat even though I would be in a counseling office. I kept the hat. Reason? To wear around the Montana. Sure enough, I forgot it today and ran smack into the king pin flang. The half inch cut will heal soon, but right now I am an ol' sore head. Be careful out there.

Stiles, Ouch, that must have really hurt. I'll bet you saw stars didn't you? I am lucky. I am only 5'3 so I can just miss it if I am lucky. I just hope that you didn't jar the humor in your head. You just seem to keep me in stitches all the time.

So sorry about your meeting with the king pin. Hope it heals quickly. Be careful with the lower corners of the slides, too. They can reach out and get you, too. I've seen some covered with pieces of swimming noodle for protection.

Been there, done that and definitely felt your pain. Only difference is I had about a 2 inch gash and was completely out of it for about 2 hours afterwards (couldn't tell anyone who or where I was). Now the King pin stabalizer is there any time I am not hooked to the truck (even in the driveway over the winter.

Did that too. Then I got a tripod kingpin stabilizer and that makes it almpost impossible to bang ones head on it without first stubbing your tow on the tripod.

Prior to this I used a flexible pipe wrapping noodle and some duct tape.

OUCH! Sorry to hear about that Stiles. You are correct about being careful under the nose, and not just bashing the old noggin on the kingpin—there is that nasty worry about mutilating our beloved TVs.

I am sure the sight of me hunched over under mine is rather comical. I am 6'4" and feel like I must be about doubled when under there. I always try to remain in such a position until I am well beyond the nose, but I have the fear that a day like yours in coming somewhere in my future.

I have 2 orange cones. If I'm unable to use the tri-pod I place one directly under the kingpin. The other is always placedat a strategic location under the bedroom slide. After leaving the storage compartment or traversing under the 5er I see the cone and hopefully remember dot to stand upright until well clear of the slide. That bedroom slide will put ya to sleep!!!

Ok, The only question I have is did you rub your head right after you did it??? My wife pointed it out to me the last time I stubbed my toe. She said why do we always rub it when we hurt ourselves? It sure doesnt make the pain go away. I had to laugh because I had no answer. I hope you get to feeling better soon.
Rick.

Stiles, I feel for you. I was always bonking my head on the bedrom slide. I Hang some red streamers with velcro from the slide. I quit bonking my head. Since I use a king pin jack I don't worry about it. Hope your head is feeling better.

Stiles, I have met with the same issue...more than once. Last time was yesterday but the gash isn't as big as yours. You'd think a person would learn after the first few knocks to the head. Guess I'm still in the learning mode!!!

Stile - I just did the same thing about two weeks ago. I knocked my self silly and then to my knees. The stars were flying high. My wife has suggested I too start wearing a hard hat. Between the basement doors and the king pin I have scares.

Stiles;
I got one of the Grandkids large Funnoodles and cut a piece the width of the hitch plate. Cut a slit and slipped it over the plate to prevent hitting my head. I also cut a piece to fit over the hitch pin to also soften the blow. The bright color of the Funnoodle also helps other to see the head banger. It is also good for the bedroom slide that I sometimes bump into it the front doesn't need to be high enough for leveling.
