ceiling fan

Don fixed our ceiling fan so we don't need to get on a stool to turn the fan on. Now can do it from the wall switch. (now works like the ceiling fans at home) He took the fan down and moved wires. Then put it back up. Did not need new switch.

Dusty: How did Don rewire the switch? Do the lights and the fan both come on at the same time now?

I just reach up and pull the chain, but would like to know the answer to Bill's question.

Ours is also an easy reach but I, too, am interested in the answer to the wiring question. Thanks for posting.

Sorry didn't get back to this sooner. He took the fan down and rewired two wires. Whoever wired it didn't do it right. Now we can turn on the fan by the wall switch. If you pull the chain you can turn on light and fan, from the wall switch. I will ask him exactly how he did it.

Interesting. Ours is just a year older than yours, same model. But the wall switch on ours controls only the light in the fan. The fan itself is controlled by the pull chain and is fully independent of the wall switch. The other chain will turn the light off also but the wall switch has to be on for the light to work in the first place. Ours is how we want it to ooperate so I'll leave it alone! I'm surprised yours is different. Now I wonder if all later models were changed or yours was just wired incorrectly in the first place.

Ours is early 05 and works the same as yours. We added some length to the chain for the fan so I can reach it.

At 5'4" for me and 5'10" for my husband we couldn't reach the chain easy. This works better with the switch.
Now we can either do the chain or just the switch for light and fan motor. The light can be turned off by chain or switch. Or fan can be controlled by switch only or chain.Anyway it works exactly like the fans in our stick house now.
Thank God there is an electrician in the house. LOL
