Myrna and Bob, the fuel prices hit us all pretty hard. What we're doing to keep it within our fuel budget is to stay in one place longer than we used to since towing mileage eats the biggest part of the fuel budget. We're finding there are lots of things to see in each area that we missed when not staying as long. So now we stay a week instead of two or three days, a month instead of two weeks. It really seems to help on the fuel budget.

Local paper says that gas prices in central NYS will go up about 20 cents per gallon within the next month bringing prices to $2.55 plus. Plan ahead!

Friday, March 4, I was going to pick up my F-250 from the dealership where they were spraying on a bedliner and I saw a station that had diesel at $1.99 and I made a mental note to stop there on the way back to top off the tank as it was about 3/4 full. When we returned--after taking the time to eat as the salesman wanted the guys to go back and wash the truck better (a courtesy on his part)--the price had jumped to $2.09. Yesterday, I was noticing $2.12 to $2.15 as a common price around Athens, Ga., but I did manage to purchase diesel at one BP station for $2.05.

So we are experiencing gas increases like you, just not as steep of ones.

Here in Washington State we have 4 major refineries, 2 in Anacortes and 2 in Ferndale. We do not have a shortage of Oil Tankers Coming from Alaska, We do not get our oil from Saudi Arabia We do not get our oil from canada. I know all of this because I am employed by one of the two companies that escort the Tankers from Port Angeles to the refineries. It is what we do 24/7 365 days per year and now we are bringing in alot of Tankers and the other company is just as busy. As for the price of Diesel/Gas it is all GREED Just look at the Oil Companies profits all up over 1000% You dont see anyone fighting to get out of the oil industry.

"GE" has had the top spot for many, many years, as the top money producing company in all the World according to Fortune Mag. Inc. "GE" took great pride in this fact, but they got knocked out of the #1 spot last year by, you guessed it "Big Oil". I don't remember which one but maybe Exxon/Mobil.

I guess one of our state senators in Oregon called the president to look into the diesel gas prices here. It is about $2.70 per gallon as of yesterday. They say it will come down and regular will go up during the summer and we will all be paying a lot more. One of our main problems here in our valley is that Shell recently took over most of the area. Shell relies more on mideast oil than anyone else, I believe it is over 80%.

I pulled the same trick as Wordsmith. I headed out to run some errands and went by the nearest diesel station. The price was 1.999. This was early last week. Figured I'd fill up on the way home. An hour later it was 2.049. Friday it was 2.129. I haven't been by there since Friday so it's probably higher still by now. Naturally, we've been stationary for two months but just as we prepare to hit the road again (this Thursday) the prices go up. Uncanny, my luck.

Steve, since my last name is Zuber, my father used to say that they lined everyone up alphabetically and ran out of luck before they got to us, so I know how you feel about that uncanny luck!

For instance, I was in my F-150 this afternoon to go by the closest Georgia State Park to buy an annual ParkPass and then went by the Wal-Mart there to put some gas in since the low fuel light came on during the trip home from work on Friday. Gas was $1.84 there, which was good but not that great locally, but diesel was $1.97. I could only shake my head as I had spent yesterday scoping out cheap diesel all over Athens in the F-250.

Diesel fuel in Eastern Washington is running $2.70- $2.80 a gal. Went over into Idaho and paid $2.55 a gal yesterday. Was talking with the cashier and they are expecting diesel to jump up another 30 - 38 cents a gal. over the next week. That will finally put it over $3 a gal. Who knows if true or not but sure makes one upset when regular unleaded is running $1.97 a gal. In reply to ExxonMobil becoming the largest company, that is correct. ExxonMobil is already starting the "upgrade" on its diesel producing factories to meet the new emission standards that are coming up soon. And of course some of these costs are being sent to us, the consumers.

2.05 to 2.09 in the Rio Grande Valley right now. You know the thing I don't understand about travelling in the U.S. is that diesel is higher priced than regular gasoline. In Ontario, Can. the diesel is about .40 per gal.lower than gasoline. Diesel takes less refining.

Bill and Ann, until last year diesel was cheaper than gasoline in most of the states, too. Not all, but most. This last winter "they" explained the higher prices were due to the higher expected use of heating oil in the NE US. Well, spring is coming folks, if this explanation holds water shouldn't the prices come back down below gasoline, now?
Someone explained it on another thread that truckers are now allowed to pass the additional cost through as a surcharge, so they don't care. But you and I and we are the ones who are paying for it.

Not only is fueling up more these days....has anyone checked the price on crankcase oil lately? I went to Wally-Mart today to buy for an oil change in my wife's car and it is 50 cents a quart more than the last time. Curosity made me walk around the corner to look at oil for diesel engines and guess what?????? Shell Rotella-T was priced at $6.92/gal. up from $6.27 the last time I changed oil in the PSD.

This makes me ask a question I have been meaning to ask in a new thread. I have read on other forums that quite a few people use the above oil for their diesels. What do most of you use?

In some places that we have fuelled up, non commercial vehicles get an $.08 discount on diesel. This is in Arizona. Does this mean at all gas stations we should get the discount. I know some of the stations have separate pumps for big trucks, but a lot don't. Has anyone else come across this? Here in Yuma prices are $2.35 - $2.50. And they say they are going to go up more. Just in time to catch the Snowbirds heading north!
