Today's Project 03-21-2012

Today I repaired the harness under two slides for the wiring support. One of them was completely broken and the other one was well on the way. It’s relatively simple overall and pretty much self-explanatory.

This was the broken one

This was the other one on the back of the curb side slide.

The way the hinges and harness are positioned; when the slides are closed it doesn’t close the hinge but opens it more.

I was concerned that there might be a problem with the wires being too close to the bolts when the slides were closed so that’s the reason for the carriage bolts with the smooth end on the inside near the wires.

Her are a couple of pictures with the slides closed.

I was inspired with the idea from this thread.

Thanks again for the contributions from other MOC members!

Looks good Bill, but what about the decreased trade-in value because of the non-matching hinges? I do need to check ours out, it seems like they changed the design but I cannot remember what the change was?
Bingo

On edit: You are doing a great job with the photo documentation!! Keep up the good work and valuable contributions to the MOC!

Thanks Bingo!

The hinges are different aren’t they? I purchased them at 2 different places. Do you think anyone else will notice?

In the Appalachia area where we live it seems that people haven’t heard of Stainless steel hinges. I couldn’t find any anywhere. I sort of resist ordering a lot of things from the internet. I may change them out later on when I find some that's what I’d rather use on them.

I repeat again Bill-- When you get done there with your working on your Monte, come on out to Nebraska and I'll let you work on mine too! You've done some great work and mods and all should be well when you hit the road for those great adventures!

Nice job, I'm doing the same as needed. My hinges don,t match, but the good thing is we are not going to trade it in. When we are gone the kids can worry about that.

Send a message via Yahoo to NCFischers
I'd be concerned about the mis-matched hinges also. It would keep me up at night.

Two bolts probably would have been plenty for the hinge to metal side. I figured it would be better to use all four holes in the hinge for the plastic since it has such a tendency to break or tear.

We've been fixing those things for years. When do you think Keystone will get the message and fix the problem at the factory?

I'm thinking the mis-matched hinges will decrease the value of the coach by at least hmmmmm 25 cents maybe?
