Changing batteries - any problems?

Our batteries in the 2500 Dodge Diesel seem to need changing. Both batteries will be changed. I am concerned about having any problems with the transmission or engine "computers" associated with taking both batteries out and installing two new ones. Can I do this myself without worrying about losing power to the computers? Can any "normal" battery place (e.g., Pep Bros or Sears?) do it, or does it have to be done at a Dodge dealer with computer "flash" capability? That will, of course, greatly impact the cost..

Just carefully switch them one at a time. That's what I did.I taped the positive cable when I disconnected it so it wouldn't ground anywhere and swapped out the battery.
Auto parts stores also have an adapter to plug into the cigarette lighter that You attach a 9 volt battery to that maintains the clock and computer settings.

Disconnecting the batteries should not create any problems anyway. Lets say You leave the headlights on and the batteries go dead, the truck better run when You jump start it!

When I change mine I do one at a time and that keeps whatever computer connections alive. If I actually had both of them out at the same time I suspect we'd have to do something like John suggested.

Locally Pat I'd suggest A1 Battery. They are very quick and the cost is reasonable. The closet one to you is on the corner of Ming and South Union. This is NOT the best area in Bakersfield and it is a small shop. They have a larger and newer shop out on Rosedale Hwy. I know you get out that way so that would be the place to go. Good luck. HamRad
