Truck meets trailer
I thought it would never happen to me. I'm always careful not to turn to sharp. Sunday I was pulling out of a parking lot and was paying too much time watching the rear of the coach around the cars when suddenly I heard a crash and shattered glass filled my rear seat. I was able to stop before monty was damaged. Just a scratch. Damage to the truck was limited to the rear window and a small dent arount the cab. I always thought a slider was a waste of money. Not anymore. I'm shopping now.

Ouch!! Sorry it happened. Sounds like damage was minimal. May be cheap tuition in the school of experience. I have a long box, so can't help on the slider advice. There are plenty of folks who can.

What window in the slider got broken, I have a couple of super dutty sliders here and if you can find some one to change out the pieces you need I maybe able yo sent them to you if your insurance don't cover the cost of a new slider. Roman

Glassguy, thanks for your offer. I broke the drivers side. I tried to find just the single glass broken but had to replace the entire back window. The cost was $240 which was less than my deductible. So I paid it out of pocket. There was rain moving in so I had to replace quickly.

Jsnip42, very sorry to hear about the damage and bad experience. May I suggest if you can swing it go for an automatic slider like the superglide. The reason I say that - I have a manual slider but in the situation you experienced I would not likely have used the slider, thinking it's not needed. And if I were distracted as you were I could have the same result, even with a slider simply because I would not likely have slid it back in that situation.

jsnip42... the same thing happened last year to me also. The truck suffered some body damage that had to be fixed before we could put a new window in. The Montana was fine.
Welcome to the club!

Thankfully this forum exists and we can learn from the "mistakes" of others. When we switched from the 335 TT to the 3400 fiver we had our dealer install the Pullrite Superglide as it seemed to have the most rave reviews from other members. We have just returned from our first trip with the new rig - Toronto to Florida and return (over 5000 kms) and although the superglide is far from cheap we never felt the slightest concern about any tight turns and reverses.
BTW, the members we talked to about the difference in towing a TT and a fiver were absolutely right - the fiver is very different but after a few hundred miles and a few reverses I really prefer the fiver. The 3400 is not small but it really does manouvre well!

Hi DiananColin! Glad to hear it went well. We're so excited for you. You do, however, need to update your picture! I clicked to see a larger version but it's the old unit in the picture.

Sorry to hear about your truck meeting your trailer--not a happy introduction, I'm sure. If you are inerested (or if anyone else is for that matter), I have a Pullrite Superglied 16K hitch that I am going to sell. It's less than a year old. Works great and if I weren't getting a long bed truck I would keep it. But, with the new truck I won't need and would like some one who needs it to get it--cheap. $1,ooo.
