This evening at about 6:00 here in Canon City we had pretty heavy smoke from the fires . There are so many of them I am not sure where the smoke was blowing in from. The smoke was heavy enough that after coming in from our walk our clothes had the smoke smell. Joe

Update on I-25 Closure:
A large wildfire is forcing the closure of both directions of I-25 near Trinidad.

The fire is burning in Raton Pass near the Colorado-New Mexico line.

According to the State Patrol, the closure is affecting all lanes from mile marker 11 to Raton Pass. Right now, we have reports that anywhere from 1,800 to 2,700 acres have burned.

Evacuations have been ordered for homes north of I-25 and County Road 72.

No word on when I-25 will re-open to traffic.

Just a reminder that I-25 at Raton Pass is still closed. Planning on heading that way Saturday. And then maybe not. Will have to wait and see.

Last Sunday (6/12) we were southbound on I25 and pulled in to Trinidad just 3 hours after they shut down I25. We rerouted to US160. WARNING: US160 east of Trinidad is a bumpy and narrow 2 lane blacktop with no shoulders. Between the truck traffic and all the crazy car drivers trying to pass at break neck speeds it is not a real fun experience. I would advise avoiding the area if possible.
