Exhaust Brake

We are looking to buy a '04 2980RL. We have a '04 Chev C/C D/A SB 4x4. We're currently towing a 7K GVW travel trailer. I've gotten conficting opinions on whether I should install an exhaust brake on this truck. Some say it's a must with a 12K trailer, but others say I may have warranty issues to deal with. I would appreciate any thoughts from anyone with or without the exhaust brake on the D/A combo.
