When I was in Vt during the winters I used Opti Lube found it to be best. People up there always said just use kerosene. I was concerned about warranty issues. Before Opti Lube I would gel anytime sub zero.

Diesel fuel sold In Wisconsin is nearly all blended. No additives necessary.

Power Service since I encountered my fuel Gelling about 15 years ago. It was a real pain to et straightened out after that. New fuel filter, heat truck for 48 hours and only drive 5mph for 20 miles back to town. I will pay for a little insurance to not have that happen again. The fuel was winterized fuel purchased in a cold area. If below 0 put it in the tank!!

I use opti-lube. Has nothing to do with cold weather though. If you read up on the lubricity requirements of (Bosch ?) high pressure fuel pumps, you will discover the fact that the fuel here in the USA does NOT meet their specs which is possibly why there are many reports of self destructing HPFP,s causing tens of thousands of $$ of repairs needed to the trucks this happens to.
I personally will do anything to prevent this from happening. Its cheap insurance.

I’ve used FPPF for the last 10 yrs or so in the winter and Sea Foam in the summer. Power Service is also good. I like to get rid of the water and a good additive will help with that.

I use Stanadyne Fuel Additive and have for the last 10 years on my 05 Duramax. I buy it by the case on Amazon now. Still have the original injectors. Hope I didn't just jinx them. I do live in the DFW area and normally it's not that cold here and I try not to travel where it is.

The manufacturers do not recommend additives because there are a plethora of them on the market, some of which do more harm than good, and the mfgrs don't want to get bogged-down in lawsuits and warranty claims. As has been noted, replacement of the lubricity that was lost with the introduction of ULSD fuel is the main reason to use additives, along with gelling issues in cold climates, and water issues.
Here is a comprehensive study of lubricity additives:

No additive will get rid of the water. It’s still there you just can’t see it but it’s still doing it’s damage.

That study is eleven years old and I'm pretty sure there has been plenty of changes in the last eleven years.

Yes, it is old, but I am not aware of any newer study.

I have a F250 and use cetane from the dealer. Only place i buy it. Use it in every other tank when towing. i also only buy my DEF from them. Ya I know its the same as Walmart and when I am not close to my dealer thats where I get it. My parts guy gives me a deal on parts and stuff. I buy him a case of beer once in a while.
