Is the 2015 F250 the first one to have the engine brake with the switch on the dash?

It appears you are the only one here with a new 2015 Ford. I haven't even seen one yet. Maybe I will have to come look at yours. The Ford web site (via a quick scan) doesn't mention the switch. I also did a quick look at one of the Ford enthusiasts web site and found nothing there either. It look like you get to be the expert!

I saw the new switch. The system in my F450 works extremely well with out the switch. It's just another example of an improvement Ford made at request of owners! I read an article with some Yahoo complaining about the previous system. He did not know how to use it. Just started complaint about it. I like to read my manual before driving! Lol. Enjoy the new truck!!!

I love my 2012....had to intention of ever trading....then Ford steps on the new 6.7 and gives it more HP! Enjoy that new 2015, it should pull like a beast!

I would like to read the manual for the 2015 F250 but would be to old to drive after taking the time to read and understand it. Just trying to find what you are looking for in the manual takes all day. The index is not worth a dam to find anything.

Well Frank, reading the manual won't tell you much. Here is the *COMPLETE* description of the Diesel Exhaust Brake switch from page 37 of the Ford 2015 DIESEL Supplement.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Diesel Engine Braking
This feature increases engine braking at higher engine speeds to provide better grade descent control with less brake and transmission wear and tear.
Press the button located on the switch bank next to the audio unit to switch the system on or off. A light will illuminate in the instrument cluster when this feature is switched on. You can use this feature with tow/haul to provide further increased engine braking. For more information on tow/haul, see Automatic Transmission operation in your Owner's Manual.
Isn't that the most informative thing you have ever read? Maybe the Ford 2015 SUPER DUTY Owner’s Manual explains more under Automatic Transmission operation? Nope, there is no mention of the Diesel Exhaust Brake in that section or even the entire manual.
It would be interesting to know the difference between Tow/Haul and the Diesel Exhaust Brake. But Ford doesn't seem to think it is important enough to document. Maybe someone will ask the real experts on one of the Ford truck enthusiasts discussion forums.

It seems like ALL manufactures us the first half of the manual to discuss all the safety stuff about the use of the vehicles. Seems to be all about liability now days. Go figure.

I don't think I'm wrong on this, but could be. Me thinks Ford has added a true exhaust brake in addition to having the variable vane braking via the turbo. This should be a result of the Ram trucks stepping up the game with their equivalent of a "jake" brake with the new engine design change. Switch on, lift foot off pedal and computer closes down exhaust vane and downshifts tranny...no touching of brake pedal required. Even the aftermarket folks now offer a true exhaust brake system for the later model fords. Having had it on my diesel pusher, I sure do lust after one for my 2012 Ford. John

The Ford exhaust brake is the same as the GM unit - a turbo based brake system. At least that's what Ford says.

The exhaust brake and the Tow/Haul for the tranny are two different things. The exhaust brake has been explained, but the tow/haul is a change in the shift points in the tranny for higher loads which makes the shifts delayed. It has nothing to do with exhaust braking.

The transmission tow mode works in conjunction with the exhaust brake by down shifting. I was really pleasantly surprised at how well the combo works on my Chevy.

Tow haul mode does a lot more then change shift points, what makes it work is the fact that it locks the torque converter in every shift except 1st, this keeps the torque pulling and keeps the trans temps down. And it does work in conjunction with the turbo brake, sometime rather violently, as in it will about throw ya into the steering wheel if you should decide to touch the brakes at the same time the turbo brake engages and the down shift takes place. My Ram was really, really good at slowing a load quickly, without braking. My new Chevy is good, but does not measure up to the 2008 Ram.

Pick ups have Exhaust brakes, bigger diesels have Compression, Jake or Engine brakes...the last three are all the same, just different names.
An exhaust brake is a means of slowing a diesel engine by closing off the exhaust path from the engine, causing the exhaust gases to be compressed in the exhaust manifold, and in the cylinder. Since the exhaust is being compressed, and there is no fuel being applied, the engine works backwards, slowing down the vehicle. The amount of negative torque generated is usually directly proportional to the back pressure of the engine.
A compression release engine brake, frequently called a Jake brake or Jacobs brake, or Engine Brake, is an engine braking mechanism installed on some diesel engines. When activated, it opens exhaust valves in the cylinders after the compression cycle, releasing the compressed air trapped in the cylinders, and slowing the vehicle.
