Talked to Steve Senderovitz

I talked to Steve today. They weatered Sandy pretty well. He lost a few trees and is without power and internet but is doing ok. Being in a rural part of New Jersey, he will be without power for a bit longer but his generator is keeping the food cold.

Good to hear another one's safe. One advantage to our lifestyle is the generators etc we may have available.

Thanks Jim! We were wondering how they were doing. We had emailed each other prior to Sandy coming in and he thought he was ready for it and glad to hear they are doing OK! Keep us informed. How are you guys doing? Any damage there?

Thanks for the update. Talked w/Steve before it hit. Glad he and Betty are doing OK. Lynn's relatives near them in NJ lost power, too.

Good to hear!

Steve was one of the first members to help me after I joined MOC. It's been so long I don't recall the details, but I'm sorry to hear he's going through some of that mess. The best news is that he's prepared enough to recover fully.

Take care Steve and I hope we hear from you soon!

After 11 and 1/2 days the power came back on. I woke up at 3:00 AM and the clock was on showing the time. We survived the ordeal and I can assure you we will have a generator that can run the whole house very soon. We used our Honda 2000 generator to run the refrig, freezer, TV, radio and some lights. We lost power on 10/29 at 6:00 PM and the cable/internet at 8:00 PM.

I always thought I would have like to be a mountain man but after living w/o power, no hot or running water, no TV/internet I've changed my mind. We were fortunate that Jen lives across the road from us and does have a generator that runs their whole house, hence we had a supply of water to fill buckets, to flush toilets, a place to take hot shower, etc. We burned wood in our fireplace for some heat while we were awake. Sleeping was not bad at all and was quite warm under the covers but getting out of bed with house temp as low as 45 was not fun! We were lucky as we only had real cold temperature a few days, most of the time the weather was very moderate.

While I am complaining, we can no way compare our experience with those that lost everything at the NJ shore area. I have not seen any of the damage/pictures yet because of having no media communications - will do that today. I will say that the communications and organization from the JCPl was lacking. They were recently taken over by First Energy a global company and had gone through a downsizing and re-organization. Understanding that this was a storm that was of a scope and magnitude never experienced before. The management communications (not the line men doing the work) was very poor as to what was being done, where the problems were and when the power would be back. I think they will be raked over the coals in the up-coming months.

Good to be back and thanks to all who called and were concerned on our well being.

Betty and Steve
