LED vs. traditional tail/brake lights

My new 3150RL has two red tail/brake light assemblies and two clear backup lights mounted on the rear. As with my previous fiver the tail/brake lights are not all that bright, especially on a bright sunny day. On my old fiver I installed a highly reflective material behind the incandescent bulbs which did improve the brightness a little. Now I am considering replacing my current light units with LED lights. The old fiver had uniquely shaped lights but my Montana has standard 4" round units which can be found most anywhere. Has anyone done this, installed the LED units, on their trailers? If so, are you happy with the result? And where did you purchase the lights? I have found them at prices from about $19 to over $50 each. I firmly believe that "you get what you pay for" so I'm willing to pay a little more for a good light. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin

I'd like to learn more about these, as well. The yard lights (is that what those big round lights are called on the exterior of the 5er?), on my Mountaineer had LEDs installed when I bought it, but they weren't very bright at all. When I pulled them, I noticed that over half the LEDs were burned out, the rest were very dim. Not the reliability I would have either expected or hoped for.

Try looking for good lights at a large truck stop that has all the chrome stuff and the different lights on display and working. Look for the ones the truckers use on their rigs, they are bright. Not all fuel stops have such displays. I changed out my tail lights on my 04 Mountaineer that had the old style auto light bulb and the standard red cover which were common on every rv. It was work but with some oak and some ingenuity it looks and works great.

If you check out the led light at a truck store also check their angle of illumination. Step to the sides and see how well you can see them.

I replaced mine with Multi LED lamps and brough up the brightness. THey are really clearer at night and cripser tun on and off, besides they do not draw as much current and less heat.

They have a listing for replavement bulbs.
