I suppose the biggest difference to all this is: are you a weekend camper; holiday camper; work camper; full time or seasonal camper;or as some would put it just "livin in a camper".

If you are work camping you go to work, come home relax and go to bed. If you're a full timer weekends are just another day so to speak. Weekend campers are there just for a couple of days and are trying to cram a lot of get away time into those days.

I knew this tread would stir the pot a bit.
A lot of responses stating being noisy/load/boisterous etc. My org post stated nothing to that extent. Why would you assume I/my group would be that way ?. The groups average age is around 60
Yes, we always sit around the camp fire with our favorite cold beverage chit chatting , often past midnight and beyond. Other then normal voices you would not hear much else. We are very respectful of others.
Our idea of camping is to do just that (camp), not try and fill the day with stuff to do from the crack of dawn till 9pm.
Camping to us is supposed to relaxing and not having an itinerary of stuff to do all day. We all get up every day at 5-6am for work and would like to sleep in while camping.
Its almost impossible to do that at most campgrounds when at 6-7am everyone kids are let loose running and screaming, riding the training wheeled bikes in and around the other campers. And don't get me started about feeling like im in a dog kennel with dozens of yapping dogs. Idling trucks for hours. The use of hammering drills to raise stabilizer jacks. Talk about disrespect for other campers !!!!
It is way louder at 6-9am then anytime at our groups campsite.

Beeje,
As usual assumptions have gotten the best of me. I automatically assumed from your OP that you were younger and part of those groups that drink beer and laugh really loud till about 2 or 3 in the morning. When we were weekend warriors there were numerous times where those kinds of folks were a very real issue. I am sure a lot of others have had the same experience. So once again I am forced to say sorry for assumption.

Oddly enough you would have fit right in with our bunch when we were in the weekend warrior mode. We worked all week and on the weekend we would go pursue our favorite outdoor activities (kayaking, side by sides and fishing). We bought our camper specifically to do just that. Our days usually started early and we would sit around the campfire QUIETLY enjoying a few suds, food and the sweet smell of the wood burning before going INSIDE (so we wouldn't disturb others) our campers to play cards. You might be surprised at the number of parties inside the campers that your not aware of. Those campgrounds aren't as dead as they appear!

Other posters on here got one thing right though. There are different kinds of campgrounds. Nearly all of the campgrounds in the oil town of Carlsbad are full of hard working oil hands. We are up in the wee hours of the morning and when we get home after dark we are dog tired. During the week we don't tolerate ANY noise after dark for good reason. If you want to party around here you best head out into the desert!!

If you want noise than I suggest a KOA campground. I go to bed around 9 and watch the news but I get up at 5. Now I like to be quiet for those who sleep in but if you don't respect my time I sure wont respect yours.

Even KOAs are highly variable. We have been in KOAs where there was a lot of activity. And we have been in KOAs where where you rarely saw or heard anyone even though they were near full.

If you are real picky about your neighbors hours find some nice national forest or BLM dispersed camping. Some of this can also have crowds but there are a lot of great places where you will not have anyone within a half mile.

We have seen the good & bad at CG's, but mostly the good every where we go. we too like to go around & have a few drinks & both my wife & I enjoy hearing people have a good time, laughter is like music makes you feel good. We are seasonal and most people are out till 11 or 12 but it does seem to quite down between 9 & 10. We are on the river so noise travels easy, but the wooded sites really muffle the noise. We have no set plans usually but are always doing something & the beauty of the camper is you really can shut out most noise & activity if you want.

Wife and I are in the 9:00PM crowd. Anyway, most campgrounds have quite hours set from 10PM till 7AM.

Wow! 1st we are not campers, more like explorers. My wife is usually inside 30 minutes past dark and I enjoy being outside watching tv with my propane campfire until midnight or 1am. Generally I’m up before 7am. If you make a little noise I don’t care, come on over and shoot the poop. Obnoxious noise levels and smoke pouring into my site can piss me off after a while. A little of that I’ll pass on like 1 shot to shoot your wife but if you are a bad shot I get upset if you need to reload.

We winter near Yuma, even our rowdy Canuck friends run out of gas around 9, we have never had a problem with noise, have stayed in Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Minnesota, etc.

While camping we're out early. Hiking, kayaking, sightseeing. Good thing. As we leave some areas long lines are starting to form. We're morning people and are often ready to settle in about 9pm.

I was at a campground recently where 20 tent campers were up around the fire past two AM. The next day we shut our windows and turned on our a/c so we wouldn't hear them the next night. The ranger even went by at 1AM and it just kept going.
