back to the drawing board?

trying to get to sleep at the Hershey show after a day of viewing the new units ( didn`t see anything that made me want to buy a new camper) and the wife says she hears the water pump running. well we are in bed so no one could be using the water. Not fully comprehending whats going on cause I`m half asleep and she says it`s still running. Ok not wanting to deal with anything I just turn off the water pump off and say I will deal with it in the morning.
Ok so up and turn the water pump back on, go out side and see water running out of the bottom near the pump so off with the pump and start tearing things apart and this is what I found..
After some research on face book another fellow had the same thing happen and he surmised that the heat from the hot water heater caused the fitting to become brittle being so close to it and hot water being in the pipe full time, and it just gave up from the pressure. Maybe? Comforting thought , there are many many plastic water fittings in the general vicinity if you can see them in the mess of wires and pipes that Keystone says is the quality work they do. I just cut out he whole fitting and used a Shark Bite tee to fix easy peasey. BUTTTTTTT is this a trend of things to come? I think I`ll buy some different Shark Bite fittings to keep on hand just in case. It made a pretty big mess of water to clean up and soaked the floor under the furnace and hot water heater that`s in the one of the kitchen cabinets. This is why I don`t use the city water I fill the water tank and run off of that only. If this would have happened when we where gone all day at the show and on city water it would have totaled the camper with flooding big time. Come to think about it....Hershey show, lots of bargain priced campers, totaled camper from flooding, I think I may have missed the bus on this one.

Well, you can always take the sharkbite off. Reconfigure it like your picture. Hook up to city water and go back to the show.

My guess is simply too much bending pressure on that fitting. Nothing to do with heat. This is exactly why I ALWAYS fill my water tank (even if I have a water hook up) and use the pump. I can tell if there is an issue by hearing the pump run while no one is using the water. If hooked up to water, there would be no end to the flow of it. At least with the pump drawing from the tank, the water flow would stop when it was emptied.

I find it much easier to carry a pex crimped a few fittings and a few rings. Substantially cheaper than a few shark bite fittings.

AS you can see this is why I use the exact same method and it saved my butt as proof. If I had been using the city water and not the pump and this broken while we where asleep ( and it would have cause no real noise to alert the wife) it would have flooded the camper before we would have realized what was happening (in the morning or the sound of a water fall out the front door.) So yes it`s a bit of a pain to fill the tank every 3 days (not) like you I`ll stick with this method for now besides the new mega pump I put in provides better water pressure than most of the camp grounds we stay in.

I showed the second post on this thread to the wife and said "he has a point" she said " if you would have done that I would Divorce you" then I said "well that would be a win win situation" now I`m in the hot seat LOLOLOLLOL

That's easy fix just get a new brass fitting and some crimps and repair. Life goes on. I carry some brass replacement fittings, crimps and the crimping tool just in case.

The wife and I can dry camp for up to 9 days fully self contained with one tank of water. I take a quick shower every day. The wife uses the bathhouse.

We probably have never trusted plumbing in RV’s, and have always turned the water spigot off anytime we leave the RV. Heard to many flooding stories. Used to be a pain to turn the spigots on and off, but for the past 5 years, we use a remote controlled valve that is in the convenience center, that has an App for our phones. For $50.00, it’s worth the piece of mind. While lying in the bed at night, just open the app and turn off the water.

OK, this is why this forum is so bad sometimes, always coming up with more things to spend money on. What is the valve that you can turn on and off with a cell phone? Maybe a link is available?

Can you tell me what crimps, tools and fittings a novice might want to add to their junk box?

And more about that app valve?? Good to be prepared.

Shark bites fitting will be you friends in a pinch. No tools needed other than something to cut the pex pipe.

On page 7 Model #55AQUAJET ARV OR DRV
5.3 gals. min @ 65 psi I paid $250.00 for it 5 years ago ( remember it`s for the camper so cost is irrelevant ) this is what I tell the wife. I think the cost has come down to about $200.00 I have moved this from the last 3 campers and will to the next easy peaszy install. I did put a pressure gauge on it (from lowes) and turned down the pressure to 55, the setting is on the front of pump for this. Your wife will love this for washing their hair, at least mine dose. It`s very quit and only runs as fast as necessary for demand. It also helps to take the flow restrictors out of the faucet and shower heads.

Cannot get the link to work from this phone, but here is a pic of our shutoff. It’s really a timer, but we just use on/off feature. Even tells you how much water you use. Amazon still has best price. Looks like they have improved the looks. It’s a nice gadget to spend more money on

As suspected it needs a good WiFi connection. Not much of that in campgrounds. Yes yes the campground you stay in has great WiFi. But I travel the entire US and Canada and am here to tell you there is little to none in almost all campgrounds.
