Broken compartment key
Hi All,
Just wondered if any of you ever broke a key trying to open one of the compartments of your trailer. We did just that. We have misplaced the other set of keys and now we are in trouble...please tell me how to fix this. We can't lock our outter compartments now. If anyone has any suggestions , let me hear it. Right now, I am baffled about how to go about getting another compartment key for our trailer.
Thanks !

Borrow a key from a neighbor Rv'er. These keys are very generic so just about anything will open your compartments.
I find that to open or close a compartment you must "push in" a little on the door to allow the catch to turn smoothly. If you "horse it" you will break the key.
Best of luck

More than likely the 2002 still used the CH751 key. One key fits all campers. You should be able to get a CH751 from your closest dealer.

Is part of the key stuck in the lock. If i'm not mistaken you should be able to look at the part you still have and it should have a number on it. Go to your dealer with that number and I think they can get you a new key. If part is still in the lock you might have to pry it out with a small pin

Or just replace the whole thing with a new lock and key from your local camper supply or internet supplier (Camping World, Camper's Choice, etc.. You said you can't lock it, so it must be open where you can get to the inside with the retainer nut to remove it, right ?

Most comparment doors take the same key. You could pick a key up from another dealer that would probably work. Good luck!

Changed all of ours to a barrel key. Never have to worry about breaking key or any outlaws out there with a 751. Dan

foggyb - where is the best placed to get barrel type locks? I have looked at home stores and they pretty much just carry the same type that comes on the Monty, or home hardware. I assume a locksmith is all that remains. Are all of yours keyed the same?

Hi Native tex I was in the car wash business for over 20 years so I was very familiar with the locks as all my meters etc had them. I didn't have any of my accounts still open so I went to the local lock smith and ordered them keyed alike. Make sure you order them with a dept large enough for the trickness of the doors. This is unusual as most of the are mounted in metal and are too short. Thus most lock smiths will not have them in stock. I think they were around $10 to $12 ea. Well worth it. Squirted anti-freeze in them b4 we left to prevent on the road freezing and reoiled them when we got warm again.Dan

You can take the lock apart and remove the broken key I did no problem than just buy another key as others have suggested.,

I changed all mine to barrel or ace locks keyed alike also. I ordered them from MR LOCK on the internet, located in Tex for $10 each.

When I first found out about one key fits all I went down the local locksmith and got new ones. I sure hope I don't lose my keys.
