5th Airborne Pin Box
I have the opportunity to buy a 5th Airborne pin box for $650. It looks new and according the the owner, it has one been used once (don't know how many miles but must be less that 5,000 - which was his last trip out before he bought a newer Big Sky.) I can find a new one freight paid for $800 on the internet. Is this a good pin box (the comments I have heard have been positive). Is his price a fairly good one? Is there a way to check it out to make sure it is okay? What do you think?

I sure like mine, and the price seems reasonable. Don't know how you could check it...consists of a Firestone air bag and a shock absorber. If it's still on his truck, you could load up the RV and watch to see if it works.

We really like ours. On our first trip out it got the DW approval. Check the numbers on your pin box and the one you are looking at and make sure it is the right one. Go to the 5Th Airborne site or Tweety's and check their cross over charts. It is a great price Mike.

We swear by ours, not at it like we did the original pin box. Price sounds very good. Don't know how to check it either but do make sure that the numbers on the pin box are for your rig.

If it is the correct one for your unit, I don't think you can go wrong.
We love ours.

Same as the other folks, it's a great price and an excellent product. Have had ours on for 4 years and would never go another mile without one, it makes that much difference.

Hmm. I am going to go down after church tomorrow and check it out. I called Keystone and they said I had a 1621 pin box and he had this on an'05
Big Sky. When he bought a '10 Big Sky the dealer would not give him any extra for it on his '05 trade in, so he took it off and put his old pin box back on. However, it does not fit the '10 Big Sky. Is there a place to look on the 5th Airborne for model number. I know what it is suppose to be, however, he said he could not find it marked on the pin box. Maybe somebody knows what the pin box is on the '05 Big Sky.
He made a template of the bolt holes, etc and they all match up with the pin box I have. Hmmm.

Mike, the holes aligning the pin box would not be the only concern. Is the king pin locating the same length from a reference point on the coach? This could change the loading on the frame.

Posters keep saying to check the number on the pin box to be sure the 5th Abn will fit. My pin box was mislabeled and caused a great deal of confusion.

Well, I went down and bought it today. $600. Will get my son-in-law to help me do the install. The deal includes the provision that if it does not fit my box or I have to raise my 5th wheel, the deal is off and I get my money back. I'll let you know how it goes.

When I installed my 5th Airborne pin box, I had to lower the hitch by a bolt hole to keep the 5er at the same level. The new pin box was that much lower than the original.

I will have to watch the measurements when I get the box installed to check that out. Thanks for the heads up.
