Kitchen sink odor

Does anyone know what might cause a sewer-like odor from the kitchen sink on a 4 slide unit and how to repair?

Does it smell like sulfur (rotten eggs)? If so, it could be a condition known as "sulfur water". This is caused by a bacteria from hydrogen sulfide. This has happened to me twice because I waited too long between filter changes and the bacteria got through. It stinks awful but apparently is harmless (go figure).

There is a way to clean out the bacteria by pumping fresh water combined with chlorine bleach, then letting it sit for a while, then completely flushing out the bleach solution. Check the internet for the "solution".

If the smell is ONLY the kitchen sink, then it may be something else.

If you figure it out, please pass on your findings and solution for the rest of us.

Mike,
Are you sure it is from the kitchen sink? Depending on your rig (it is a good idea to add your rig details to your signature in the Profile section at the top menu) there may be a check valve which has been widely reported on this forum to cause odors in the rig. If your rig is a 3400, the valve is located between the shower and the kitchen cabinet near the pocket door. Steve Riegel (sp??) recently had a post detailing the location of the valve with photos. Other units have the rig under the bathroom sink. This is only a possibility, but if you empty the galley tank regularly, there should be no odor problems. Hope this helps.

There is also another check valve (at least on the 3400) under the kitchen cabinet behind the small access door (plastic) to the right of the sink. I beleive Richfaa had to replace this one because of an odor problem in the kitchen. Maybe he will chime in soon and let us know for sure.

We had a smell coming from the sink and slow drainage. I removed all the plumbing from underneath the sink, cleaned it all out and no more smell and increased drainage.....This might be the easy fix......

Thanks for all of the feedback! I think I'll start by looking for the check valve since this layout is just like the 3400. If/when I get it resolved I'll report back.
