Change thermostat on furnace?

Is there any reason I shouldn't change the thermostat for the propane furnace in my old '02 Monty? It has a pretty old and not calibrated slider type temp control. Can I replace it with a digital one without causing problems? Will any standard 4 wire thermostat work?

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has changed theirs - what type - what are the risks?

I changed ours within days after we bought our rig. The analog thermostat was all over the place operating the furnace. Seems fulltimedreamer had a schematic on a website, but I can't find it now. I do recall you need a thermostat that has batteries, as there is no power for the thermostat. Also, unless you add a small toggle switch, you will lose low speed on the AC. We didn't use the low speed anyway. I used a Hunter I took out of the stick house when I installed a heat pump. Digital thermostat works great. Haven't put batteries in it since I installed it.

Thanks for the reply. I actually have that very Hunter model laying on my workbench which prompted my question. When I go down to Sterling Friday I'll take it along and chage it out. ...dan
